What Is Up With The AI?

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 4:41 pm

The more I play this game the more I get frustrated with the AI. I wish I could determine what those stupid bots would do. The bots have no clue on what to do and I am often left by myself trying to complete an objective. AI will take a long route straight through enemy forces without back up. Seriously? Are they going to fix this? I am considering moving onto another game. Don't get me wrong. I like Brink but the AI really needs some more polish.

I feel your pain.

I've been spawn-camped by the enemy bots at level 6 ON EASY, playing Container City as Security. We had just fixed the crane, which swaps the spawn to that room just behind the crane. As soon as anybody went past the crane they just got gunned down... I was usually lucky enough to take out 2-4 bots before I died, but it's hard taking on an entire team of AI because all your allies are doing is just standing out in the open going "DERP DERP" *bang* "DERP DERP" *bang*, and the enemy is zipping about, sliding, burst-firing SMGs with Rifle accuracy, melee'ing and buffing each other. I've also had games where they literally shut down every single possible access route to an objective with 2-3 bots at each, and because friendly AI has the overwhelming urge to just run into enemy fire, it always just winds up being me, alone, carrying the entire team... still on Easy.

For god's sakes, either the enemy bots needs a nerf or friendly bots need a buff, at least enough for them to hold their own in a goddamned 1v1.

I went against a REALLY good team in MP on that map, they did a really great job of locking down the bioweapon/vaccine, and even had a sniper who was pulling off headshot after headshot... but though they tried, even they didn't manage to pull off spawn-camping us. You know something is [censored]ed up when playing it on Easy is harder than playing it against real people.

I know what you mean when i'm playing the objective challenge my AI team mate's can't cover me at all when i'm trying to take the objective's whereas the enemy AI have no problem killing my AI team mates.

And when THEY try to take an objective, they have no desire to seek cover. >_>

Attacking Reactor as Resistance for example, if a friendly Operative starts hacking the first objective they tend to just wander into the middle of the room...

Yeah, friendly AI seems to be pretty lame, but often they do complete objectives on their own, but it really doesn't seem right the enemy is way smarter then my teammate bots, and the enemy isn't that bright either.

The one true fix to Brink's amazing AI wooping tail:

You have to become some super freak twitchy frag machine, and simply repeatedly wipe out the entire enemy force... and.. believe it or not.. the AI will complete their objectives.

Works for me, you try :)

PS: The defending force always has the upper hand in map layout, which has a huge impact on the way AI performs. There is a certain seek time between the time an AI sees an enemy, and the time it fires on that enemy. The defending force always has the upper hand when it comes to visibility of the enemy. As pertaining to AI.

PSS: And Yes.. I really did say that... " Super Freak Twitchy Frag Machine"

I know right, I (and probably many others, if not everyone) can take on 4 bots alone they're so bad.

Also has anyone else noticed,(I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet) if you get into a fire fight with them and you duck behind cover, they completely forget you're there, so i just keep poking in and around cover and i catch them with their backs towards me, every single time.

I beg to differ... at level 20, they're sprinting, sliding & jumping all over the place and headshotting you at long range with SMGs. :sadvaultboy:

I also played the same level attacking/defending one after the other, where MY teammates were off doing their own thing, the enemy bots all just bunched up on the main objective and made it nearly impossible to take or defend, since it was me by myself 75% of the time.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about. I never get stuck on that map as security, and I always play it on easy. It's one of my favorite maps, I get around 8000 exp every time on that map.

Yup, you have to become a CoD super-soldier-lone-wolf-person with these moronic AI bots, lol! :D At least, I had to so many times. You have to pretty
much clear the entire room or area/section before your teammates push forward (or go towards a Command Post again  ).

Not only am I doing the primary objectives, I'm also
trying to finish up the rooms for them because these guys don't progress unless there are no enemies (and captured Command Posts) in sight. So, yeah, total Rambo.
It turns out that works better than actually trying to take the effort to support these guys (I'm a Medic).

The three levels in Security I DID finish were because: I went ahead of the teammate AI, did the primary Objective (or allow one AI to do the objective if he's smart enough), and kept charging forward and only reviving/buffing two-three guys (whoever in the current room who can be my bullet sponges) and ignoring the rest of dead bodies (there were A LOT of dead bodies with these brain-dead AI bots, lol).....which is weird because this game emphasizes teamwork so much, lol! :ermm:

Um, so basically offline, this game is not teaching me teamwork, it's teaching me to become
a CoD lone-wolf Rambo (with two/three bullet sponges), thus encouraging me to become a CoD twitchy person who fights only for himself (or, er, herself, lol).... Oh, well, survival of the fittest, no? :hehe:

Teamwork, yeah, right. Not with these guys. The enemy, on the other hand, has a much better sense of the definition of the word "teamwork" than your ally bots, hee. ;)

Right now, I'm taking a big break from Brink because these bots stress me out THAT much. It's not fun anymore, it's becoming too much like work. I'm going to play something else while I wait for SD to make future patches.....which hopefully does come next month. If not, I'm trading it in. It's a unique, interesting game with lots of potential, but it feels terribly unpolished or something.... :(

I never have any of these problems... I absolutely love brink. The only time I see a AI fail is when I want to take a defensive position, and they take the best ones. Or if I put a turret in a doorway kind of place, and a bot came in to help me defend, he would get stuck in the turret. That's about it, besides the messed up implementation of SMART in the bots.

I'm glad that you don't have AI problems :) (you're so lucky!), but several of us apparently do. That's why you keep seeing posts complaining about the AI constantly both on the Beth. forums and the SD forums and a fan-forum or two, etc.
Even reviewers mentioned the not-so-smart AI.
So, not everyone can be wrong....?

I don't know why I never had these kind of problems in other games (even FPS games). Maybe it's because Brink's a "team" game? Maybe it's because I never had to rely on the idiotic AI? Maybe some games have better AI than others (especially if it's on Easy mode or something)?

I hate the AI. I just spent 10min sitting at the hack objective clearing the room so the AI operative could hack the box. He never showed up....
So after the enemy AI finally kills me I switch to operative, but now the room is filled with enemy AI cuz my team can't do [censored].

Dilemma?
AI can't get do the objective even when I clear the room.
AI can't clear rooms so that I can do the objective.

That's crap and a waste of my time.

Lol, I end up doing the primary objectives myself (become whatever class the mission needs), but the AI don't help provide cover when I'm hacking/exploding/repairing/whatever.

Maybe try being the class needed for mission, clear the room, and then do the hacking (while the enemy AI respawn)? That's what I did on one mission.....though the enemy respawn FAST and come running in the room to get revenge pretty fast... It's a luck thing, I guess?

Yeah, the friendly bots are too busy doing comand post objectives, which doesn't help win the match.
