Demon's Souls style weapons system

Post » Thu May 12, 2011 2:14 am

If anyone else has played Demon's Souls [PS3 exclusive, mind], I think Skyrim's weapons system would be good if I was like that for console.

Basically:

Two weapons slots for each hand.

You can switch between these two weapons separately for each hand.

You can toggle using whatever is in your right hand with both hands instead.

It gives room for a fair amount of freedom. You could even have two shields out at once, for example [use one for blocking & the other for smashing]. It also allows for quickly changing between playing styles, like switching from sword & shield [close range] to a bow & a wand [for spells, long range].

What're other peoples feelings on this?

All of that is already confirmed, with the exception of taking a one-handed weapon in both hands.

Really? Excellent :) Must've missed that. Been trying to not stay on the forums too much for fear of overhyping it with still eight months to go, aha.

I honestly dont know how you could have missed it. It was one of the first pieces of information released (the hotkeying of favorite items)

I think the combat is heavily inspired from demons souls actually. Which is great, the combat made you feel like a complete bad ass after you practiced for your moves to become instinct (like real life).

Ah i remember dual wield tower shields :)
Holding a one handed weapon in 2 hands gave it different attacks to a regular 2 handed weapon and I think that would be a cool edition to skyrim but it probably wont happen

As much as I love demon's souls, I don't like insta swapping play style games. from what I've heard, we can in Skyrim actually create a single slot to change armor, weapons etc at the same time.. Very bad imo. That's a feature I won't be using. I'd actually like us to be stuck with what we have once we enter a close combat fight, you do not in real life go swapping about your claymores to giant axes and two different types of shield and three types of armors. :/

I know you could switch weapons (as long as you weren't in the middle of a swing/spellcast) in Oblivion, and I assume Morrowind. But I don't recall if you could mess with armor..... (I tend to just wear one set of armor, personally. But you need weapon switching to go between bow & melee, or to pull out your fire sword for the ice monster; or put away your fire sword while fighting fire atronachs; or your Soul Trap mace to finish off the deadra; etc, etc, etc.)

Technically, a single demon doesn't have multiple souls. Multiple demons do. :bolt:
