So we don't care so much about learning details about them (the games),how the mechanics work,we just want to get in the heat and enjoy.
Still this is war and in war : "Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory.Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat." or as i say "You may win a battle by numbers but you'll need strategy & tactics to win a war",cliche but yes,Spartans is a nice example.
This rule applies to gaming battles in the FPS genre,it is no different in this apsect at least.
The FPS genre been around from early 70's.Popularity of course came much later in 90's with "Wolfenstein 3D".
These modern days their popularity feels like they reached the zenith of all times,so after many years a change feels needed.
Seems they owe their popularity mostly to the multiplayer aspect of the game.
This also raised another problem though explain http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/3/19/ very clear and unfortunately is very true.
Anonymity with audience is a bad combo, just another thingie we want to expoit as many do in game.Another issue nevertheless.
So this change came with adding componets like classes and objectives that change, thus making it a bit more complex but also far more interesting.
Again comes the choice of wich audience they appeal,we all have personal preferences and different tastes,we must keep that in mind always.
In bottom line i just want to "count" these FPS rules,we like them or not,we care or not,if we understand them partially at least they'll make our experience in the genre more enjoyable.
I won't be getting on to details about them, most of the things i write here are from A noob's guide to first-person shooters By Featured Blogger Bim Barbieto,a simple and nice guide.
Hopefully i'm not breaking any forum rules,i apologice if i do.
1. Learn the maps
2. Control the map
3. Know where your team mates are
4. Don’t run around like a chicken with your head cut off
5. Choose a class/weapon that fit your play style or vice versa
6. During objective games, perform the objective
7. Take cover
An important thing that we also fail to understand is patience. In every apsect.
Patience to learn the new game's mechanics, for us and for the others to get used to them and know what to do.
Patience if the game has flaws/bugs/glitches,programming is not so easy as you think, theory is easy yes but to make everything you put into paper into work needs very hard work and coordination.
As our famous friend said “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them”- Albert Einstein.
Everything can be simplified and easy when we sit down and discuss issues rather than just wanting to convice everyone that our opinion only is right and matters.
It is rather narcistic view helping noone don't you think?
All in all an objective-based game is much different that what we used in playing and needs more time for everyone to understand it's mechanics and function in the right order.
I could also say that when we show how much we hate a game we give it more advertisment. For example CoD:BO has sold $360 million from North America and the UK alone!
Meaning it's not a bad game,we can't deny the obvious.I'm not a fan of the game but this is strictly my personal view and i'm not trying to convice anyone.
It has it's flaws and bugs as any other game.Brink is the same, some flaws that can be fixed in time.
Brink on the other hand is pure objective-based,you can't play it any other way in my opinion. At least if you want to enjoy it you can't.
Even if you play as an operative you can't run around, operative benefits by beign light bodytype, thus hard to kill in 1vs1 battle so he can initiate a disguise and then unleash mayhem with he's abilities.
You will find Brink extremely beneficial and flourishing in enjoyment if you play it with friends.
If you don't have that many (like me) you just need to be patient, learn the game, wait for others to learn it.
Same rule here as for MMO RPG's,learn your class!
Brink is perfectly balanced in my opinion but everything can be taken one step further by discussing it and giving positive feedback.
My advise,as just a casual player,is enter every game with the fact that you want to help your teammates first and then yourself.
Have fun in games, the jungle is out there (in the Real World) don't bring it in here
