A "no spiders" option?

Post » Mon Nov 01, 2010 6:14 pm

Dont incinerate spiders, it just doesnt work well. My brother has set on fire a number of spiders hanging over the front door at our mother's house. Using a random spray and a lighter. And imagine that, with time they became more resistant to the flames! So I say bullsheet: freeze the hell out of them. I've never seen a spider out there in cold weather.

So from this thread I see a number of things.
1. To those trying to hide spiders in the links my "friends" on another forum have actually sent me PMs with spiders in them. Rage usually follows.
2. As for exposure that wouldn't be so bad if the spiders were little. I've seen pictures of massive ones bigger than my car.
3. Yes I will just have to wait on a mod to remove the spiders.

im serious man try those steps i said earlier and eventually you will be more comforttable with spiders and will be slaying them in no time.. don't listen to your "friends" who sent you those pictures.. they mean no harm they are just ignorant

I'd rather deal with a giant poisonous spider in a game than an itsy bitsy one in real life :D

I'm a big Elder Scrolls fan (I have Morrowind and it's expansions and Oblivion with it's expansions) and when I saw the spiders in Skyrim I became saddened as it means I won't be able to play it. I may be 6'4" and 185lbs but spiders scare the crap out of me. I won't be able to play the game if I have to see spiders. I hope someone will find a way to remove the spiders and replace them with equally powerful monsters. I was gonna buy this game the instant it came out but I can't do it till the spiders are gone.

hmm never heard of a phobia preventing any one from playing games...

you are aware the spiders are not real right?

Maybe there's a spider queen somewhere, that you can try to find the nest of. Once found, the spiders start to spawn less often, signifying that you've exterminated the threat once and for all.

Actually, I've tried all sorts of methods to eradicate this fear... And there is a scene I have written in book 2 of Memoirs of a Madwoman, which involves spiders.... And during Halloween, my house is filled with fake spiders... Real ones are more creepy, though. :batman:

I was once in a house that had fake spider decorations. I lifted a hand up to flick one of the spiders in the fake web...and the thing crawled, it was real! I screamed and ran out of the house as fast as I could ><

Deal with it! Spiders are cool, if you choose to miss out on playing what could be one of the best games ever because of some pixelated representation of a creature then I think youre going a bit far, personally if I was scared of something in the game it would make it even better ;)

I don't get why everybodies answer to every problem they have is to "make it optional".

Bethesda makes quality games, and there comes a point when certain things are put in the games to fit along side other things in the game. For instance, we have a quest to go kill a spider queen in an ice spider cave. You chose the option to turn spiders off. So your fighting through an ice cave full of webs and egg sacks, but your fighting sewer rats.

Get what I'm saying?

I'll just start off by saying I only read the OP post, not anything else, so what I'm going to say may or may not have already been said.

Arachnophobia seems to be a problem in games it seems. I've even read that certain players couldn't complete a quest in RuneScape because it involved spiders (and that was a lot of years ago when the graphics were around RSC/beginning of RS2), and those spiders didn't exactly look realistic back then. I'm not an expert if it comes to phobias, but I do suggest going to a specialist in this field. One thing I would think can help you, is the fact that it might actually overcome your fear if you do manage to find the necessary courage (not sure what word would be best fitted here) to fight those spiders. I seem to recall watching a program on the Discovery channel about arachnophobia and one of the tests they put their patients under is to make them see through a camera, or something, which depicts spiders. Again, this was as a means to overcome their fear.

Hope it all works out for you in the end, man.

Yep, EXACTLY.
Its the same thing with nudity, gore, etc.
Play the game as its intended to be played. (Mods conflict with that philosophy, but I never get a mod that removes something only mods that add content)
I'm just as scared of spiders as the next arachnophobe, but why do I want spiders in the game?

well if you what spiders out because your arachnophobic then i want the game world to be flat, all out in the open (no caves, house and what not) and i want all owls (if any) removed from this game as i have Acrophobia, claustrophobia and oclophobia its only fair right?
