LOD related Issue

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:55 am

I wasn't sure where to put this, but it's been slightly annoying for me as I can't seem to work out the problem. I've tried a few LOD mods out there - RAEVWD_v1_8 being the one I'm using at the moment. Can't seem to budge this issue though - http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k169/Metal-Gear-REX/Q.jpg & I see http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k169/Metal-Gear-REX/ScreenShot0.jpg frequently which really distorts good scenes - and I'm not sure what it is, especially when I see pictures such as this - http://tesnexus.com/downloads/images/15278-1-1212977327.gif - and wonder why their textures and such are so smooth or at least blend in. Is there some sort of ini edit I need to make or?

RAEVWD supplies the necessary files, but you actually have to build the DistantLOD files with http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15781 There are also other texture replacers for things like grass, trees and whatnot. You can get some info http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/obliviontextureoverhaul.html Now keep in mind that RAEVWD replaces MTAEVWD that's mentioned in that article - don't use the MTAEVWD and variations mentioned, but the rest of the info is good. There are some updates to the mods mentioned, but it will give you an idea of what to look for.

Hm alright. I tried that, but the problem is I'm getting this error:

Could not open registry key: SOFTWAREBethesda SoftworksOblivion

Searched the mods thread for a solution, but I couldn't find the key they were referring to.

For that first image, look for Koldorn's Noise Replacer. It will improve your distant views considerably. You are fully patched right, since it doesn't there like you have any kind of noise replacer at all. That was only added in the final patch. As for the second, that just happens sometimes. Some cells just take a little while to render fully, there's not much to be done about it. It's just one of the quirks of the game engine.

Most likely this means your game is not installed where the system is expecting it. Did you move it after initially installing it?

Well I didn't move it after installing it, instead I installed it in a different directory and hard-drive to the default, but I'm not sure how to tell the program to look somewhere else. So this problem (yet another, lol) is what is preventing from me from trying out this possible solution. I don't mind the details of the textures so much, it's just the actual oddities in the textures which really ruin a lot. Even sure I didn't have this issue on my old PC, possibly.

I don't think you have to. It reads the registry - which means the registry isn't synched with where Oblivion is actually installed. This is usually a result of moving Oblivion after installing it. I have Oblivion installed in C:\Games and TES4LODGen works fine.

I haven't moved it, haven't had a reason to either. Could it be related to it being in a different HD, especially one not named C? There anything I can do about it except for installing it again to wherever it wants it to be?

No, that has nothing to do with it. None of my programs are on my C: drive, that's exclusively for my OS. It's been that way for many years now and there's never been a problem. I currently have 3 hard drives, with all my games being on G: and nothing ever gets lost. It's really simple to solve your problem you know, all you need to do is reinstall your game so the registry gets updated. It might be a good idea to get yourself a registry cleaner as well, maybe something got screwed up in there.
