Plugins that +truly+ need Cleaning

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 6:08 pm

Hi everyone!

Can you please share what plugins you have cleaned and succesfully tested in-game?

Also, if you've just undeleted and disabled references, or removed identical to master records as well (and eventually anything else).

I got mixed indications from reading the tutorials, and since I'm not a modder I can't do any deep anolysis on the mods..

So I believe the best way is to rely on your direct experiences, thanks :)

DrChi's http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=291 and most of portable house mods that are modified D&D Portable Hole(except mine!). The plugin is bloated because of including all vanilla scripts.. I'm sure the author clicked on 'compile all' accidentally.

Don't rely on tutorials for anything except how to clean. Lists all get outdated.

It takes me less than a minute after the esp is in the data folder to see if it needs cleaning. That is the best path. If you are assembling a load order then yeah there will be a bit of work up front, but worth it and as time goes on it is an easy check before adding a mod.

Remember though - don't clean overhauls - others that are generally good to go are both BC and open cities, Unique Landscapes, don't clean esp that have other esp as masters. Once you take those out of the equation it really reduced the list.

I've never had an issue with plugins not working after cleaning, but always follow the guidelines. 100s of mods by now.

I was assuming the OP was referring to http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/TES4Edit_Cleaning_Guide but if not then should link. And I suppose those who will read this because they are searching should check out that tutorial - it is the most comprehensive one I know of.

Just again I would not trust lists that say need cleaning. Check anyway - it will be a learning experience.

1.Psymon right about this page. I said "read" and it means "read all article", not some lists only.
2.About the list. More important is "list of mods you should not clean" . So, don't clean "Book Jackets Oblivion.esp" too.

Psymon, that's the point.. I have no idea how to evaluate if a mod needs cleaning or not!

I've learnt that undelete and disable references is always safe, but I don't know when to apply "remove identical to master"
(due conflicting opinions on various posts and guides regarding if it's always safe as well, and it seems it isn't).

Any advice on that?

Thanks guys, your support is highly helpful and appreciated :)

Jedi-

Just run both procedures on each mod - as long as you don't clean what is on the don't clean list then you are good. You don't have to save the mod after cleaning and that will undo the cleaning. You could even highlight what it gives you and show the mod maker what it found. I've done that but to lukewarm reception at times.

If not on the do not clean list then both procedures should be harmless.

KC33-

Just read the tutorial linked above then come back and ask if you have any questions. Again if not on the do not clean list then I clean regardless or check if needed at the very least, but if needed it gets cleaned.

The do not clean list:
# Do NOT clean any FCOM files that come in the FCOM archive. (or other overhauls)# Do NOT clean SM Plugin Refurbish…unless you really understood this guide.# Do NOT the unofficial patches (UOP, USIP, UMP). They have already been cleaned.

I see also on the tutorial not to clean these as well:
ArmamentariumArtifacts.espMart's Monster Mod - City Defences.esp (author says to not clean)Mart's Monster Mod - Gems & Gem Dust.esp (author says to not clean)Mart's Monster Mod - Hunting & Crafting.esp (author says to not clean)BG2408's mods (LAME, RBP, Integration)Oscuro's_Oblivion_Overhaul.esmOscuro's_Oblivion_Overhaul.espFCOM (None of the .esp/.esm files should be cleaned)
And above was posted advice not to clean book jackets, but not why.
