Sneaking in crowds

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 7:47 pm

I was thinking, if there's a fairly large crowd around, we could pass through pretty unnoticed, right? And we could pickpocket someone and in the crowded street, nobody would take notice so long as I didn't bring much attention to myself. So, first of all, I think they should add this, and also, if I'm walking around in daylight near people, I should be standing up straight and walking cautiously, not crouching down like a crazy person, so it should blend between the two depending on the situation. What are your thoughts.

I'd like this, but it will only work if the game has actual crowds. Judging by the level of detail they're going with, it will probably be about the level of crowds that were possible with the "crowded cities" mod for Oblivion, meaning about 3-4 people in close proximity at any one time in the city streets. Not exactly "bustling metropolis" levels of crowding. After all, this isn't Assassin's Creed, so they can't make huge crowds of NPCs that are basically just animated stage props.

I don't think that crowds in Skyrim will be that tick so you can use them for sneaking.

I think if an NPC notices you sneaking about acting suspiciously, than he/she should watch you, or perhaps even alert a town guard to your presence. I think overall, NPCs should behave more realistically to your behavior. If you randomly decide to run around in your underwear, than the more prudish members of the community would be quick to point out they're disgust, being one example.

sure, you could have a stealth related perk that gave you an action prompt for stealing when you were standing closing to an npc, without having to go into crouch mode. seems simple enough to do

I was thinking more like when you are in sneak mode, it automatically detects if you are in a group of people or not and sets you to stand up but still 'sneak' if you are.

How crowded will the cities be? This would be cool but they would have to be very crowded for this to work. And based on previous ES games, there are never large groups of people crowded together.

When I read the title of this thread, I immediately thought of Assassin's Creed. :P

Yeah, it's a cool idea, but I doubt the crowds will be big that huge.

It is always an issue. I think we saw a fair few NPCs in the shot of Riverwood and the shot of the town with the windmill, all fairly close together, so hopefully quite a few.

Don't you think it's funny how in every city in Cyrodiil, guards generally outnumber the civilian population.
