Armor of the Dragonborn

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 10:21 am

In oblivion, once you beat the game, you can get Imperial Dragon Armor. Do you think Skyrim should have this and what should it look like? Iv been dreading the horned helmet as some sort of this kind of armor. I REALLY hate it. Instead I want an obsidian-color and steel embroidered armor which I think would look beastin, especially if it had the symbol of the dragon born adorned on it. Discuss what enchantments it might have, what it would look like, and if there even should be Armor of the Dragonborn

If you can forge weapons, why not forge armour?

No "Armour of the Dragonborn" should exist.

BUT, you should be able to craft a dragon armour by killing dragons. Kill one dragon and you might get some material. Kill another one and you might get some more. Eventually, leading to the final product - dragon armour.

Edit: On a second thought, what I described above might as well be the "Armour of the Dragonborn", but it could just as well be simply dragon armour

I was really disappointed with the armor you got at the end of the MQ in oblivion not because of how it looked, but because it just wasn't good armor - it basically had the stats of cheap Dwarven armor with some enchantments. What's the use of that if you already own about 20 full sets of Daedric armor?

If there is an armor as the final reward, I don't care how it looks, but I want it to be really unique in its armor rating.

On a more serious note, I want more than just 'Light' or 'Heavy' options available to me. If I play a mage I want them to be robes with the appropriate stat bonuses. If I play a stealthy character I want a sort of leather style with appropriate stat bonuses. And if I play a straight up warrior I want heavy plate armor, with appropriate stat bonuses

What about the mage-warrior type of guy? Like the guards in the Arcane University? They didn't have any robes, but they did use magic... As I said, it's better to forge your armour by yourself.

If you want to design your own armor, your going to have to mod it in yourself, and if you can't do that, then you'll just have to stick with whatever armor is designed/

If you can forge weapons, why not forge armour?

I expect you can forge armor, but forging items doesn't mean you'll get to design them yourself, it's highly likely that you'll be limited to a list of items designed by Bethesda, albeit there may or may not be items that can't be acquired by other means.

Honestly, though, the Imperial Dragon armor was kind of pathetic as a main quest reward, it looked nice, but in terms of stats, it really wasn't worthy of being what you're rewarded with for saving the Empire from destruction, especially since if you weren't going out of the way to control your leveling, at that point, it would not be unlikely for you to be able to easily find much better armors in random loot. In Morrowind you also got a pretty weak item for defeating Dagoth Ur, but at least there, you could get some nice unique artifacts along the way, Oblivion doesn't benefit from that. The reward for completing the main quest should be something that's both unique and powerful, because when you've defeated a god to save the world from destruction, you deserve something good, I don't particularly care exactly what it is as long as it's something worthy of my deeds.

Personally I think the Imperial Dragon Armor looks great (too bad about the stats...quickly had to mod it :P) so I would like something along that design but with a Nord influence...more rough and tough!

I think there should be "Armour of the Dragonborn" but you should have the choice of weather it is light or heavy armour and should be based on gender.

I like these for light:

And these for heavy:

Of course these are just suggestions and my idea's. And there are some things I would change on these, but they are pretty cool.

I like the progression idea. You should be rewarded or have to craft or quest for the armor to fight the dragons. And no enchantment please. Allow the player to customize his/her own enchantment package.

[edit]

Also, I would like it to look more functional than ceremonial.
