Any news on crashes after 2nd startup screen? Tried playing Fallout on my girlfriends computer.. i have a better CPU, more RAM and a better graphic card, but she can play Fallout and I can't. That is for sure a new scenario ^.^

I occasionally get a crash on launch, but before any screens pop up. What I do get (or did, anyway, before build 285) was the game minimized to the Task Bar and then again everytime I opened it. I finally closed my browser and the problem went away.

Post dxdiag reports, so if can troubleshoot. Plus, is Steam installed to the Program Files directory?

Having the same problem as the OP since getting the new patch today...
Sigh really dont understand how developers and or publisher can release patches and not do proper testing!
Damn game sold 5 million copies and has many bugs and glitches, ok you see the fans still support you... and ya I see you released 3 patches now with promise to release a big patch soon, but I've just looked on this forum and other sites and people who install this patch are having the game crash on start up!

Not sure what the patch changed or why this would happen to me and many others but any how this was how I fixed my crash on start up after the new patch today.

ArchiveInvalidated was the problem.
To fix this crash you need to move it down the list in the fallout_default.ini file, like so.

SArchiveList=Fallout - Meshes.bsa, Fallout - Voices1.bsa, Fallout - Sound.bsa, Fallout - Misc.bsa, AII-FNV!.bsa, Fallout - Textures.bsa, Fallout - Textures2.bsa

just search for the SArcheList part, and replace the entire line with that bit above. Works fine now.

Try disabling the GTS 450's onboard audio chips via device manager. it will be called nvidia audio or some mess like that...I keep mine disabled before drivers ever got installed
Also your asking alot out of that Pentium Duel core also your dxdiag is incomplete I see nothing about a sound divice...or really its not listed but its driver file and its not digitally signed just because it says there is no problem does not mean there is not one...
DxDiag Notes
------------
Display Tab 1: No problems found.
Sound Tab 1: The file ctaud2k.sys is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL). You may be able to get a WHQL logo'd driver from the hardware manufacturer.
Sound Tab 2: The file ctaud2k.sys is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL). You may be able to get a WHQL logo'd driver from the hardware manufacturer.
Input Tab: No problems found.

I have a feeling with ctaud2k.sys its a creative labs sound blaster file not whqled yeah sometimes that does not mean jack but with creative labs normally that puts the nail in the head on issue your having. I never use anything creative labs have had too many issues with their sound cards, with onboard realtek i am picky on what drivers I use, or i just use something razer like my megalodon headset that seems to take out any issues period since almost every game company uses/partners up with razor on launches and demos during E-3 and other type events.

@kmkfmly
post above your audio drivers may be out of date 2009 do not use the latest ones use ones about 1-2 back from the latest ones, also it looks like your using generic motherboard drivers like the ones windows just installs, you may also want to try the 186.18 drivers for your gpu. Other thing I notice your using a proccessor that was around since I think the p4/dawn of core 2 duo days I could be wrong, but your asking alot out of that cpu if you have the game setup to run at high settings. The latest nvidia drivers are more or less for the GTX 4XX and 580 cards, The ones I suggested where prob the best for the 8/9 and 200 series before the fermi changes hit. Like drivers after those caused my FO3 to lag bad with my 8 series cards and 280 GTX's things with the effects of the gause rifle would cause game to crash to desktop or just lock up, or the game not starting.

Thanks for the info.. I'll check into that.

The CPU is old... Fallout 3 plays fine.. hoping 3 NV would also... the CPU is above specs.. but just barely

yeah its because FO NV has some newer stuff in it in terms of eye candy, some people had to do the dX9 .dll fix in order to force Directx9 if you look at the dxdiag stickies post I have post and a link on page 3 to those files and it pretty much tells you where to put the dll file but since the patch of the game I heard it does not work...

Yeah I didn't copy the full dxdiag.
You are right about the sound card, it's an Audigy 2. Never had issues with creative and interesting enough Fallot 3 is running fine with my hardware. I'll have a look at disabling the audio chips

I didn't paste it because i considered it irelevant. It's an Audigy 2, yes. Never had issues with creative and interesting enough Fallot 3 is running fine with my hardware

still get a newer whql driver for it, also set your sound to 2 speakers and see if that works.

Out of curiosity I installed XP on a separate partition, because I wanted to see if that makes a difference. And interesting enough, it does make a difference. Game started without crash or any other problems.

are u using quarn's Archive Invalidation Invalidated?
if u are, rename it or move it so meshes.bsa and texture.bsa are after AII.
if u rename it, u could use Fallout - AII.bsa in the fallout_default.ini and the dummy file in the data folder
also, fake sure u have the latest version of new vegas script extender and fomm
