"hardcoe" mode

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 3:02 pm

i think there should be a sort of hardcoe mode option (fallout: new vegas) in Skyrim. Like Oblivion, i loved the game just like i'm sure i'll love Skyrim, but i wish it was twisted with a little more realism and strategic "survival". With the cooking coming up on Skyrim i thought it should be used in relation to the hardcoe mode type playing. When i play Oblivion i try to make the game like this as much as possible. I make it to where the only time i can save is using a bed (autosave). This gives beds more purpose and value and makes the game more challenging. i also dont use fast travel to make it as if i have to plan to make this huge QUEST (add purpose to its name) across the map to get where i need to be. Another thing is the inventory/wieght and what u can carry. now i know we all want to hoard all the cool stuff we find right? well by limiting wieght we can carry (on the hardcoe mode of course) will set a decision in the game towards what is more important; what should i sacrifice for something i want. And really who is going to carry 200+ pounds of swords and armor around while they fight dragons and what not, no one would right? All this could be sebichted of course through the menu option. simply turning the mode on activates a type of survival based real strategy kind of game.

Yes, well implemented hardcoe mode would be awesome. Maybe you should make a poll.

There are alot of threads discussing this already, you should revive one of thoose instead, other then that, Yes i support the implementing of some type of hardcoe mode, but with a few tweaks.

The more I think about it the more I think I'm going to go straight to hardcoe after completing the main quest.

No cheesy name. Just make a submenu with optional features in my opinion.

I'm playing F:NV for the first time and doing hardcoe. It sometimes feels a little tacked on, but for the most part it is pretty cool. I'm fine with the ammo weights because you (well my character) can't be a master of every gun so i just beware of what I pick up or just sell my excess bazooka nukes and others.

The H2O is a little annoying, but again, so is it in real life

I never have an issue with the sleep system because I use some graphics mods and nights are very very dark. I cannot travel safely. I don't know if the mods caused that or it's actually in the game but I just sleep at night (preferrably in a hotel to get rested status).

I would be fine with this system or something similar in Skyrim. Since we have little professions, one of them could be cooking (use chopped lumber to make a fire to cook). This is sounding like minecraft! But seriously, I think it would be pretty easy to implement now that they have all these other systems in place.

Nevada Skies makes the nights pretty dark, plus add weather to the game.

As for the hardcoe mode, I'm actually a bit disappointed in the way it was implemented in F:NV. It doesn't feel very "hardcoe" to me. You carry around some water, some food and a few doctor bags and it's not that hard. The only real impact that I feel is that I run out of encumbrance faster. I admit, though, I'm not sure how I'd make it better.

OT: I very much belivies hardcoe will come in one form or another. Otherwise Beth will let the modders do their work for them :P

You should have at least named the thread "hardcoe Mode #5" or something since there are many other threads on this already.

No. The whole point to having a "hardcoe" (I think "Epic" "Hero" or "Legend" fits better for a fantasy series) mode shipped with the games is that the people who play on the consoles can vary the atmosphere of the game.

Personally, I'd like the regular game to have realistic fatigue, eating/drinking, sleeping, health, and swimming. If you want to turn those off, you have to select "Pansy" or "Easy" mode.

*A pansy is a flower. If anyone is insulted by "pansy," consider that I avoided "girly" which is sixist, and "sissy" which is only ever used as an insult, and is slightly homophobic.

While it is true that a pansy is a flower, that's not the definition you chose to use, so stop pretending it is. You opted for:

3. Slang: Disparaging and Offensive.
a. a male homosixual.
b. a weak, effeminate, and often cowardly man.

hardcoe mode shouldn't have anything to do with difficulty. And vice versa.

What they should do is add some additional mechanics that you can turn on (realistic fatigue, eating/drinking, sleeping, health, and swimming... for example) and call it "Real Life Simulator for the Shut-In" mode. Then you wouldn't have to be concerned with we pansies.

Unbelievable.
