Armor Discussion

So... As you may know, lots of people are debating on the fact of the armor. Will it be like in Morrowind, or Oblivion? Well, I've come up with somthing that could tell the anwser. The Official Wallpaper I posted in the link above shows the Dragonborn (that you can find in the Download section of Skyrim's site), we can clearly see that he is wearing armor on one of his shoulder and on the other one, there isin't any. I know MAYBE that dosen't really mean anything, but I just wanted to have your guys opinion. I guess its gonna be like in Morrowind?

I think Morrowind was better in the Armor department. The fact that you could personalize it to such a detailed degree was awesome. Whereas OB had one piece for the chest, one for gloves, one helmet and one pair of boots. I much preferred the old system. In fact, it was the first thing I noticed when playing OB the first time, and was really disappointed about it.

I'd prefer the Morrowind style of armor. The more I'm able to customize my character the better. It makes her my own. In F:NV, I make liberal use of mods like Tailor Maid and Satchel. I have armor that looks like few others. I love it.

At the same time, I also realize the challenge this makes for the developers. They have to compare and test the various parts in order to keep clipping down to an acceptable level. That's much easier to do when you're working with a more limited selection of parts. Still, I hope they put the time and effort into more pieces for more choice.

I prefer Morrowind's style for armor, because I like to be able to customize my armor. Games that only have set armor without much customization annoy me a bit.

It would be nice if there were more armor slots, but it could cause problems for overpowered enchant skill. My suggestion is to have the smaller armor pieces have less "room" to be enchanted

You know, I don't buy that argument for a second. All it would take is to set a max enchant value for each item and that problem is solved.

My Nerevarine wears Wraithguard and an Ebony gauntlet. My Champion of Cyrodiil just wears two Imperial Dragon gauntlets because... he doesn't have a choice...
Bring back Morrowind armor Bethesda, pretty please?

I'm far less concerned with the number of armor slots than I am with the number of different types of armor available.
Oblivion had 12 base armor types compared to at least 27 in Morrowind. And in Oblivion, the type of armor was leveled, so as you play, you're aware of the next type of armor that you'll use as soon as you reach a certain level. It takes all the reward of finding or being able to afford a certain piece of armor out of the game.

Morrowind all the way. I liked the challenge of having to search for more pieces to complete an armour set. It felt more rewarding once you could finally cover yourself in chintin or whatever. In Oblivion it was easier to complete a set and therefore seemed somewhat of less of an acomplishment.

Not to mention that the leveling system in OB also made it painfully common to find high-level pieces once you reached the respective level. Finding glass or daedric armour on every second bandit pretty much destroyed the sense of acomplishment of owning a set for youreslf.

Therefore in my opinion, to fully create a sense of individualism and pride in finding and using armour, Bethesda should not only go the down the morrowind path in having more pieces that constitute a set, but also ensure that as the quality of armour increases, the rarity of armour increases exponentially. For example, compare the difficulty in finding a complete set of dwemmer armour in morrowind and oblivion. In morrowind you felt more pride in showing off your highly prized, rare, sought-after dwemmer armour, opposed to oblivion where it wasn't that hard to come by after you reached a certain level.

(this was only one of the reasons i chose not to have any armour styles as a major skill in my final OB character)

Reminds me of Niko's black half-finger gloves from GTA IV, they were in all the ads, the cover art ect. but not in the game. Until we see a shot like the forum background in game we won't know.

I'd go ape-sh!t if it is going to be like Fallout 3. That being said, Morrowind was awesome with armor. Not only 3 classes, but the only piece that came in a pair were the boots. A lot easier to look gritty and disheveled when your armor looks asymmetrical.

I can't see any player, no matter how casual effectively justifying the simplicity of the Oblivion/Fallout armor systems.

It'll come down to if the Bethesda is "lazy" (I hate to use that term, but let's be sensationalist for a minute) and would rather get through equipment designs faster and focus effort elsewhere. I guess the other potential argument is Enchantment abuse, but that could be rectified by an "Enchantment Burden" system, that limits the amount of enchantment a player can equip. Preferably not limiting it to certain spots though (Some people really don't like equipping helmets, for example).

Definitely the look I miss the most is that single-armored Arm look, or one Pauldron (Or none, in the case of childish WoW/Rift style Shoulder Armor the size of a battleship)

I DO want separate armor slots, at least for pauldrong, because I think nothing's more badass than wearing only one.
BUT, I don't think the image compared to the trailer is any kind of proof.
1st- In this image, he holds his sword in the left hand, which might mean that this was reversed as in the trailer he's right handed.
2nd- has NO ONE noticed the actual shirt under the armor? I dunno if it's really a part of it or a shirt, but that's not the pint. Notice how it seems made to have only one pauldron? I mean, after all, it has only one sleeve!
