How do I get to the Oblivion Data files?

I'm trying to install BOSS, which requires you to unzip the download to the C:/Program Files/Bethesda/Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion/Data/, but I can't find it anywhere on my PC. I can only find the Oblivion folder which only has one file (Saves) in it.

The BOSS docs never mention that specific file path, so I don't know where you got that from, if it's not the location of your own Oblivion install. You install it to the same place you install the rest of your mods...

At the TES Nexus it says:

3. Unzip the BOSS.zip to your ..\Oblivion\Data folder, so that BOSS.exe is in the same folder as your mods.

I found the Oblivion/Data file but when I attempt to unzip the files to it I get this error:

Extracting file: C:\Users\Joe\Downloads\BOSS_1-5_Stable-20516.7z
Extracting to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\"
Use Path: yes Overlay Files: no
Error: Access is denied
Extracting BOSS.bat Unable to create file

The only mod I've downloaded so far was OBMM, which does it's thing automatically. What am I doing wrong?

...Sometimes I wish there was an emoticon of smileys holding hands, and then getting shot. Or possibly more appropriately, of one trying to hold another's hand, then getting shot. If you catch my drift.

EDIT: Apologies for my bad mood, you are not the cause. Your inability to practice the most basic of problem solving doesn't help though, so no apologies for my opinion.

You're running Vista or Windows7 and it's no matter what OS you have, because you should know that path "Program Files (x86)" or "Program Files" is not recommended to install anything in those folders at all.

Before you begin any uninstall or reinstall you should turn off the UAC (User Account Control) in Windows control panel. :user:

I suggest that you reinstall Oblivion and OBMM (tool for mods) with the mods you want to use to another directory outside of any Windows related folders. I know you can install it in the C:\Program folder, but I wouldn't recommend that instead if possible install it in any disk partition (D E F...) with a lot of free diskspace.

I would srongly suggest getting your basics fundamentals corrrect by reading http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=intro_to_mods. It would save serious frustration later.

As Leonardo2 already indicated, the UAC in Windows 7/Vista is preventing the BOSS install - you should really install the game elsewhere than the Program Files folder. Or turn of the Windows UAC (google that step).

You should not disable UAC unless you really know what you are doing.
You might as well just run as Administrator all the time, which is equally not recommended.

Just take the time to install oblivion to a different location. It will be easier to work with. Like C:\Games\Oblivion
As well, if you have more than one harddisk it's better to install any games on the second disk (eg. an external harddrive). The game will run better if it's not on the same drive as Windows.
