Naming Horses

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 4:28 pm

Assuming horses are in the game, would you like to be able to name your own? It's a small thing but i think it would be good, i'd love to be able to ride around on a horse named toast

No need to mod when you could hit ~ click your horse and type setactorfullname "Apples".

Yes, Apples.

Edit- Okay I'll be on topic for once. I highly doubt we'll be given the chance to name our horses. But I've been wrong before, last year in October I think.

You inspired me to add on my chars backstory!
Do you wanna see it now?

[backstory alert]

My first characters name will be Gustav Sybbyl, an awesomely skilled Assassin, with dual knifes and a black cloak, he was put in jail for an assassination, you see he never knew his parents, they were very deeply involved with gods, almost demigod-like (being dragonborn), it was rumored that after Martin, last of the dragonborn was anticipated to perish, Akatosh sent three holy emissaries (HoK included) scattered throughout Cyrodiil, these holy men, thought gods, were not successful in their mission however, and Martin died, along with the septim line. But Akatosh now had an embodiment in the mortal world (statue in temple district), increasing his influence, allowing him to construct two new lines of Dragonborn.

Gustav Sybbyl is the most Powerful dragonborn in millenia, because he was a mixture between both families. Years later Akatosh, now Anduin, realized his mistake in returning the Dragonborn to the mortal world, and sent a band of secret monks to assassinate young Gustav and his parents, who sacrificed themselves for his life. Gustav began training to use a knife and thrown weaons immediately after his parents death, he realised that he must learn to survive in this harsh environment, and he trained in the art of being unseen as well, he took the chance whenever a bandit, or caravan, arrived at the house, to kill them. Years later, Gustav found the leader of the monks and exacted his revenge, not knowing anything about their order, or his importance, but for the murder, he was imprisoned.

He is a resentful, vengeful assassin who must change his ways in order to save the mortal world. His weapon of choice is dual daggers, or (if they are in) throwing knives, he prefers a dark-brotherhood type armor, he hates dishonorable and organized assassinations, shrouded by a black cloak. His hair is loose and long-ish, and white, his eyes too, are pale blue, and he is slightly taller than most Bosmer and more sinewy. However, none notice this because of his cloak. His motto is "Last thing you'll ever see"

He is very attached to his horse, Slikver the elven horse. He happened upon him after a Falmer (O.O) raiding party passed his remote farm, then Slikver wandered away from the Falmer camp, and happened upon Gustav, who at the time was thinking of a way to get to said monk-leaders coven. [see above]

After being Imprisoned, he lost Slikver, will Gustav ever find him? Will he ever get out of Gaol alive?

I don't see why not. Personally I found it a bit strange in Oblivion going around between My Armored Chestnut Horse, or My Skingrad House an so on. So im for this idea; I can get why everything had a "my" in OB so even if names were optional for some time later it sounds nice. Giving horses names makes the most sense, it's something I wished was built into Oblivion; riding through the forest in full armor on a (less-generic?) horse would've had a lot more feel to it.

It'd be nice, but I don't think it'll be possible in game. In Oblivion, it wasn't possible without cheating on the console. We don't even know if we'll be able to ride horses or not; if mounts are out, than naming your horse definitely is as well.

I recommend upgrading your PC. $300 will make it Skyrim capable; $700 will build you a good gaming rig, if you don't mind putting it together yourself.

Yes, I want to name my horse. I also want to have pets similar to dogemat, but that you could buy them in town and if one died you could buy another(after several hours of anger and denial of course :P ).

I can't believe nobody thought about a witty comment including a refernce to the new "My Little Pony" cartoon. Don't you think it would be cool to be able to brush your horse's hair ?

Yes, naming your horse would be cool, naming your house would be neat too, but really, I think there are MANY more important ways to improve over Oblivion.

Definitely. It would be so easy for Bethesda to implement and it'd be a really nice feature. I really hope they include it.

Yeah, I really hope we can do this. Fable and Dragon Age included this feature, so I'll be disappointed if Skyrim doesn't have it.
