I just hope they have a cool collector's edition.

I still have my Daggerfall box, but I don't miss the big boxes. I like simplicity, if the collector's edition is in a big box so be it.

Lots of games come in boxes like that still. http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/7523/3doblivboxes014gv.jpg I think it's just the consoles that get the little sleeves. Daggerfall was only on PC, so there you go.

No this Daggerfall box is big, easy 2x the Oblivion box.

I do miss the old PC game boxes, but I especially miss all the stuff. Like the Ultima games or the original Starcraft. Maps, Instruction Manuals, thick Pocket Guides/Lore Books, various knickknacks, even a little Statue or Figure if you got a Special/Collector's Edition. I loved that. Heck I've still got the cloth map and metal pin that came with Ultima Online back in the day. And that book that came with Starcraft with all the backstory on their universe; epic. Nothing is more disappointing than opening a PC game box and getting nothing but a DVD in a paper sleeve and a slip of paper telling you where to find the Manual online. I mean, remember how PC games used to be in boxes AND jewel cases? What happened to that?

But I know not everyone is into collecting that stuff. So I'd say the standard editions should be the normal keep case for the consoles (maybe with a nice pressboard or plastic sleeve) and either a keep case or pressboard box for the PC. The Collector's and/or Limited/Legendary edition however should be a metal keep case with an embossed cover/logo (like Halo 2's, not the infamous Halo 3 case) for the consoles and either a similar case or a large pressboard box again with an embossed cover/logo. Both the PC and console Collector's/Limited/Legendary edition should include several goodies like a Pocket Guide, Art Book, Soundtrack, Map, etc (seriously, I want a nice cloth or something map again, darn it). :P

If they released Skyrim in a box like this.

Or even better, one of those bigger boxes with the big flap door on the front with additional screenshots. I really miss those and I hate how most games these days are released in boring DVD cases..

Thoughts?

I'm not a fan of being extremely wasteful to the environment just for a prettier box. It's a great thing they've started using small cases now in my opinion. We have a long way to go to truly respecting our environment, but we've come a long way over the course of my life. Of course the politicians that won the elections in my home state are trying to sabotage that by attacking laws that protect the environment to allow more profits for their corporate masters, but overall I think those that actually care for the environment are gaining more ground.

Meh. I buy games for gameplay; I couldn't care less whether the box art is horrible or not (I bought the Mass Effect 2 standard edition after all.)
