Roleplaying a character from Fallout 3 in F:NV ?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 10:30 pm

I am really fond of my character in Fallout 3 and i′d love to take him to Mojave Wasteland. However i am unsure whether they have written a past for the courier and i am still unsure is Courier suffering from amnesia after the shot or not.

So the question is. Would it ruin the roleplay i choose The Lone Wanderer from Fallout 3 to play in Fallout New Vegas? :disguise:

They've said that the character is a blank slate. Their only real history seems to be that they're delivering a package to Primm from California. Where they're originally from, and everything else about them is up in the air.

Also, the Courier doesn't have amnesia.

Have they ever actually said that he/she is from California? Or only that they are delivering the package from there to Primm?

Not true.

Talonfire is correct. Sawyer said that the only set thing in the Courier's past is that he is delivering a package from California to Primm. How he got to California, what he did before, why he decided to take a courier job, where he was born, when he was born, etc. are all unwritten so that the player can create their own backstory. New Vegas will probably have the most opportunity of any Fallout game for defining your character's past in any way you see fit.

That is the beauty of this game, your character can be whatever you want them to be. Unlike most RPGs, you are only given enough to support the beginning of the MQ Plot and then left to figure out how you want to do it.

So, you want them to be exactly like some other Fallout character you have played, go for it. While I do play different builds, I tend to play the same type of builds in each game. Since it is my character, I don't have to justify who or who or why to anyone.

Wouldn't it be awesome if there is a dialogue where an NPC asks you about all those details of your past, and you get to select from a list of possible answers in order to create your own backstory within the game?

No, because that would tie you to a pre-made backstory. Unless the answers were incredibly vague then I wouldn't want it to happen.

I can't remember if it was in the video walkthrough for the town Primm or in the interview with Best Buy, but I specifically remember that Sawyer said that the only backstory they have given to the Courier is he was delivering a package from the NCR in California to Primm, and that beyond that (where he/she was born, where they came from, etc...) is left open for the player to decide.

So, sure you can be the Lone Wanderer. Say he started walking west and ended up in California and got offered a job from the Mojave Express to deliver the package for the NCR to Primm and took it.

I would imagine if they did something like that, there would always be the option to just not answer the question, thus keeping your own unique background that you've written up for yourself intact.
