Planning to install Oblivion again

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 6:20 pm

Since a year ago when my computer would get too hot for me to play games and I couldn't play it anymore, I could not play Oblivion or any games until I got a laptop a few months ago and played Oblivion there, but wasn't really that great on a laptop.

But about two or so months ago I finally got a new computer and I could play any game I wanted (Now GTA IV and Sims 3 can work well on here, Fallout 3 does too but still crashes to desktop).

Now planning to install Oblivion again but before I put Oblivion, KOTN and SI on I need to know about all the patches I need, I believe before I install the game I need to put the patches on? Or do I install the game and place the patches?

Could someone also give me a link to the Oblivion patch, the SI Patch (Or does SI fix Oblivion?) followed by KOTN and the other patches for those DLC ones?

Any suggestions for what mods I should download while I am it at as well?.

The first few that I do want are:
Toaster's share mod
That University mod that allows you to go the Arcane and get to the next step after the recommendations (Because of that glitch you can get).
DB Whispers mod.

There's another mod but it's for a mature one so I have to ask in another thread for that.

You know a lot of things can happen in an year so my advice to you is to read everything there is on http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/. :read:

There is new information you should know before you start to install your favorite mods again and look for the usual threads (RELz) of mods or tools you must have. :)

I see, I did have a read of it not really sure of some things though. I got a couple of questuions now:
How do I switch the order of mods again? I need to place the DLC patches after the DLC (You know, Frostcrag, Theives Den etc) but I don't remember how).

There is a certain nvde mod I need to find (Sorry if I can't mention it!), I know you aren't supposed to link me (Right?) but I have no idea what it is, was a very long time since I last downloaded it.

Well, for ordering mods it doesn't get better than BOSS utility. Almost everybody uses it because its mod list is always updated. Here's the link:

I downloaded it and read it, but it doesn't really help me in changing the order of the mods (The DLC patches must be after the vanilla right? Like Frostcrag DLC before the patched one). I need a mod where I can switch the the order

Wrye Bash or Oblivion Mod Manager...for hand-editing mod load order.

I'd suggest using the category option in TES Nexus' search facility to help narrow down what kinds of mods you're looking for. This makes asking after mods much easier. Plus, Nexus' own mod comments often give hints as to how good or poor those respective mods are. And if you're looking for "mature" mods, Nexus is again a good place to check, though it's also the largest repository of *all* Oblivion mods.

You might also want to check out http://knol.google.com/k/toql-the-oblivion-quest-list#. It's a great list of quest mod, along with descriptions and links. Dev_Null, the admin, is currently taking a well earned break after having started a family, but the list is still moderately current.

You should start by reading http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1119325-50steps-to-stable-fcom/ and / or going to http://tesivpositive.animolious.com and clicking on the "Preparing for Mods" link for guidance.

Changing the order of the mods is done by changing the file date.
Oblivion Mod Manager does this when you drag a mod up or down the list of active mods. So does Wrye Bash.
But you have to decide what order to place the mods.
BOSS does it automatically based on the consensus of many experienced players and modders.
They have spent a couple of years determining where what mods should be placed in relation to other mods.

Hem- That's the mod I was thinking of! Oblivion Mod Manager
aellis- So you mean they probably placed it in the correct order? Although the patches are before the DLC, but I could have sworn they were after. (Checked the download page and yeah it is)

Thanks everyone, I hope this all works. I know there's a bug of some sort of one of the DLC is not after SI (That you can't sit down), which one is that?

Are you referring to the Unofficial Oblivion Patch and the Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch when you say "Although the patches are before the DLC..." ?
Yes, those patches are to load before the DLC. The Unofficial Official Mods Patches load after the DLC.
