What shocks me is are we able to ride dragons?

I think people could stand to have a little more patience in this thead, with the OP. I mean, Bethesda likes all of their fans, half of them are lore nuts and half just like to ignore the main quest and go on adventures, that's actually been one of their biggest selling points. Involve yourself with the story or don't... it's your choice.

So I see how the OP could want a simple, fun feature that has nothing to do with Lore, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

*That said, Todd Howard said himself that dragon riding is very unlikely to happen. *not his exact words, but that was his meaning.

Someday I would like to see flying mounts come to Tamriel, but I don't think the technology is there yet on the consoles. The far clip plane would have to be pretty low for it to work with that kind of speed...

That said I also think it would bring a lot of wonder and excitement to the game worlds. We'll just have to see how things evolve in the coming years as games and technology continue to improve.

One things for sure. No flying on dragons this time around, OP.

one can dream, being a dragon or riding one is one of my favorites things i like to see in fantasy games.

Have you tried Divinity 2: The Knight Saga? It's a fairly new rpg where you can be a dragon. Pretty good rpg imo, except if you hate Gamebryo, it's using that well known engine.

one can dream, being a dragon or riding one is one of my favorites things i like to see in fantasy games. there could be even some practical uses for a "dragon form" like reaching an otherwise impossible platform in the highest mountains to find a few unique dungeons or having dragon on dragon air fights.

not all dragons have to be hostile to the dragonborn.
what if you could befriend one? being intelligent creatures themselves i'd imagine friendship/respect for the dragonborn isn't impossible under the right circumstances, like freeing one of them who has been shackled or healing one who is on the brink of death.

we'll just have to wait and see.

I understand your dream. However, riding a dragon wouldn't fit. Yes, they're intelligent beings, I know. But they have come specifically to destroy the world. They cannot be friends of a guy who is actually a dragon killer.

About that Dragon Form... what you have described is more or less what Levitation did in Morrowind, so if they wanted to implement something like that, it would be Levitation. Becoming a dragon is... VERY overpower. And not too logical, I think.

Anyway, it has been confirmed that we won't be able to ride a dragon.

Wanted to put my personal opinions on that game out there:

The game is very difficult, expect a lot of annoying deaths. You need to look in EVERY cranny, the game hides necessary keys for doors* behind pots, hidden in the overhanging ceiling fixtures, etc. Basically it's very slow paced. You'll find yourself lost often and having to be face to face with your screen looking for keys and quest items the size of a pencil head amidst dark cave lighting.

The player character models for men are very bad. Very, very bad. It's a foreign game so you can expect some very strange looking people, mainly due to cultural differences. Example: character with short spikey hair, glowing blue eyes and a power ranger suit minus a helmet with puffy red shoulder pads (supposed to be your default appearance).

The dragon form thing is a different aspect of the game. You can't just turn into one at will, you have to be at the right place and it starts a mini game air battle in a specific area.

*And more things

All around not a terrible game for $20 but I would pick up the new version "The Dragon Knight Sada" or something like that, it supposedly fixed a lot of technical issues the game had before.

The game is nothing like The Elder Scrolls, just let me say that though.

Then surely you must understand that lore is HUGELY important to the series. Did you bother to read any of the books in-game? Or actually think about what was happening?

Tdroid, you're definitely not alone.

Not really, I would go out on a limb and say the vast majority play it for the open world and gameplay, not the 'lore'.

If there are intelligent dragons, I don't see why one dragon couldn't be friendly.

I know, an enemy joining sides with the hero, a crazy idea. Never been seen before. I litteraly can't think of any movie or game that has happened.

It would be fun to ride a dragon, admit it. In the back of your mind you know it. Yet it would destroy 'lore' somehow.

I swear, most of the people on this forum want a movie not a game.

Oh, no! Out of my mind!

Just because you like it doesn't mean we like it. I can say, without a doubt, that I don't want it in the game, nor I would find it fun.

Well this topic went to [censored]

I personally don't like the idea of riding a enemy, I think that it takes out some of the grittiness in the game.

It's not about riding the "enemy", it's about the dignity of the dragon. The only possible situation where riding a dragon would be ok was if he didn't know you were even there.

It really belittles the epicness of dragons by having them bow down to humans as "mounts". They have too much pride for that.

No, no patience needs to be spared if you want Dragons or to control flying dragons go play Divinity Ego Draconis, like you said you dont care for the lore which is akin to saying you don't care if the game wasn't TES you play it for your own reasons, then go play Divinity Ego.

maybe your wording was lackluster but how the heck can you be *shocked* that your own conception isnt in the game? really? K.

if you actually took time and appreciated the Lore you'd know these Dragons aren't interested in letting some mortal piggy back, they want that existence gone and dead a ffing metaphysical force is going to clean the slate just as it has done for eons, these dragons are apparently its herald, but you want to fuzz around in the air. k

not saying dragon riding isnt fun, oh my it is, I mean I have a dragon mount for Oblivion, but when you want it just for shix and giggles well, tough cookies for you.

Just because a way of a story doesn't mean it has to not have all evil dragons, there can be good and bad.

Yeah, but the bottom line is that there isn't. I mean, you could potentially befriend a Daedra Valkynaz or Martin Septim could suddenly go insane and murder villagers because he just got swamp fever of the worst kind. But it's not how it actually is.

That said, it will likely not take very long before some guy created a ridable dragon mod for PC. I guess it svcks to be a PS3 or 360 player, eh?

I suppose if you stuck in your sword real good and hung on tight you could ride a dragon, even if they aren't real friendly. I don't recommend it though.

To say it simply, This Ain't Pern.

The dragons we'll be seeing in Skyrim are not simply dragons, but something more. They are a literal part of Alduin who is attacking. These dragons ARE Alduin, and Alduin IS all the dragons. It would not make sense for any one friendly dragon, seeing as they are all a literal part of the attacking GOD.

Saying it again, If it isn't in Vanilla, its in the mods.

EDIT:

I suppose if you stuck in your sword real good and hung on tight you could ride a dragon, even if they aren't real friendly. I don't recommend it though.

Like in Beowulf? That would be pretty cool...

It's not just the lore, it's also the size of the map. I already thought Cyrodiil was too small for the scope of the game, now with basically the same size, riding a dragon would make it even smaller.

This was confirmed sometime back I believe in a podcast with Todd Howard, but we wont be able to ride a dragon,..if I remember right the comment was "We wont be a Axe wielding WereWolf while riding atop a dragon." However what we can mount hasn't been confirmed for all we know on mounts we get a horse, and then the horse armor in another DLC =p.

I don't think we will be able to ride dragons, however I will be disappointed if every dragon is a one dimensional evil opponent.

It's been said that people with the Voice can travel with the sound of their voice... both short distances and sometimes very large distances. If we can use shouts to travel all over the place it really will be teleporting (as opposed to fast travel in which game time does pass).

AHEM!

"As far as riding them, I would not expect that. It's not something I see happening. It's kind of not how we are approaching them, first of all."

What?! Werewolves can't wield axes? It totally won't be immersive, but that's ok as long as they can dual-wield claymores. Or dragons. My character is going to be a very strong Nord werewolf, so he'll be able to dual wield dragons, right?

Mods isn't my main concern my main concern is stuff we can actually do.

And mods are stuff we cant actually do? You do know with mods you will be able to ride a dragon right? That is if someone makes it which I'm sure someone will, there was even a dragon mount mod in oblivion lol.

So I don't see what your concern about this is, just wait for the mod to come out and then everyone wins.

I've nearly been on here i seen the sneak peak trailer and it amazes me how you can fight a dragon. What I'm wondering if your able to be able to fly on a dragon, if not then that's gonna svck.

I hope we can't- because what would svck is if we could. This is Skyrim, not http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076538/.

It's good to remind pc players once in a while, but in this case people are being nice and offering a compromise.
Suggesting mods is appropriate for personal preferences. If you want klingons in your game, or dwemer scopes on your longswords for realistic headshots, mods are the perfect solution.

It is unconfirmed although it has been hinted at. I think its something Bethesda wants, but won't include if its too glitch-y or graphic intensive.

We are not here to say trolling or anything else it's what has shocked me. Now im gonna ask if this thread can be closed because this is leading to a huge argument.

It is also shocking that the report button gets the mods' attention rather quickly
