Dunmer Cultural Influence

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:42 am

After 160 years, you'd think they'd settle a bit. I expect to see at least some Dunmer towns, such as Kynesgrove, a larger than average Dunmer population in Riften and Windhelm and, since it's so close to Solstheim, the small city of Dawnstar couldbe a Dunmer ruled city.

One thing I will say is it's a relief slavery was stomped out of their culture. Not all of the Dunmer deserved what happened, but the slave owners and their sympathizers had it coming.

Good point. My dunmer freed all the slaves he could.

The Great House Hlaalu is against slavery as well.

I also hope the small cities are still large enough for that to be significant.

There better be a dunmer influence (armor, buildings, architecture, anything) they are my favorite race. Can someone explain to me exactly how wiped out the Dunmer are and why the argonians invaded... because if they are really wiped out that would affect there influence on skyrim

There's no telling exactly how many dunmer are left. apparently they were severely crippled by the argonians. My guess is somewhere like 50% of the Dunmer were slaughtered. but my guess is as good as any (and probably worse than someone who has read the book).

I don't think they had a figure on this or anything in the novel though, or someone would've mentioned it.

dark elves still have the Solthesium..what is that..

Solsthiem... An island just to the northwest of Vvardenfell in Morrowind. inhabited by Nords and has landscape like Skyrim's. Added to the map with the Bloodmoon expansion for MW

and they lost the tribunal...what is that..

Religious group in widespread through Morrowind. Pretty much the basis of the Morrowind Main Quest. you should play it, its really good.

and now they are in skyrim .. what happens when im a dunmer in skyrim and i get a quest from an argonian..because..i feel like instead of doing the quest i should kill him

I feel the same way. The good thing about the Elder Scrolls games is there's a good chance you can just kill 'em.

Well to be fair, if more Dumner had spoken against slavery, it probably would have ended sooner. But I doubt it will affect being a dark elf. Anyway, a Morrotown would be pretty cool, esp. if there was some remnant of the Morag Tong.

I think there should be some, but not enough to influence EVERYTHING in the east.

yeah, your right!:

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Winterhold
Winterhold (sometimes called Winter Hold) is the capital of the namesake county and a coastal fortress, located on the northeastern tip of Skyrim. Somewhat isolated from the rest of Nord culture, but still wealthy and influential, it is known as one of the Old Holds. Due to its proximity to Morrowind's border, Winterhold is heavily affected by Dunmer ways and ideas, fueling part of its economy. It contains the Ysmir Collective, and the well-known College of Winterhold. The ruins of Saarthal are closeby.

cool. lets hope it stayed that way the past 200 years.

I'd also like to see Argonian persecution of the Dunmer in some cases, which would be an intriguing turnabout from the culture from TES:III. There should be a lot of bad blood there for sure, and I would expect large starting disposition penalties for interaction between the two races.

That being said it would be interesting to see whether or not the Dunmer in Skyrim still cling to their old social structures at all. Will there be a noticeable Telvanni presence? Or would they have been the first Great House wiped out by Argonia because of their promotion of slavery?

This is really one thing I've been dying to find out, so I might just wander over there right at level 1 :)

House Dres would have been the first target. They were more voracious slavers.

I know the Nords and House Dres allied to "pick apart the carcass of House Indoril" but I can't imagine House Dres agreeing to abolish slavery. They were situated along the Black Marsh borders, and were the most prolific slavers. Far more so than Telvanni.

However, I could be wrong.

Yeah they abolished it.
In a shrewd political maneuver, King Helseth, representing his own House Hlaalu, formed an alliance with House Dres. Subsequently, he renounced the slave trade, setting the remaining Houses of Indoril and Redoran against him in a bloody civil war. Helseth emerged from the war battered, but without the loss of his essential powers, leaving the slave trade generally destroyed, and slavery without a foothold in all of Tamriel, although the practice persists in remote areas away from Mournhold.
