There is new hero in town!

I'd like it if someone tried to pass themselves of as you! So your deeds would start to become famous but people would not necessarily know what you look like. So there could be someone walking around, taking all your plaudits! telling tales about how he has been slaying all these dragons etc.and getting all the credit and benefits that should be yours!

Yes and no, big yes to other adventurers, but no it should never be based upon your own stats, there should simply be weaker and stronger adventurers.. any kind of heavy handed level scaling is a bad idea

Big yes to OP like the idea but i don't thing that ye should be based on ur lvl they should be within a range, for example if ur lvl 10 then the wander can be lvl from lvl 5-15 so u can end up with an easy fight or an impossible death match...
i also thing that maybe some wanders should seek u out to get trainin n knowledge... if ur a master with blades then one or 2 should seek u out 2 learn from ur knowledge maybe one or 2 seek u out to learn how 2 kill a monster plaguing there village (u can't actually fight it yourself just show them how)n u can send them on some random quest or get them to bring u something like u had to do to get master trainin..... n a couple might just want to trade equipment or learn the location of a hidden cave...
want i'm sayin is i like the idea just that ye should do more then just duel you the should interact with you like you do with master trainers/ other famous people....
(would also like rival/competition in one of the guilds fighters or assassins would work best in my opinion)...

Not only that I like this idea of tough competition, but I'd also like it being a part of the main story. Having a rival that could steal some of your glory is a nice incentive for an adrenaline addict like me. I'd like competition pretty much everywhere, in the guild quests, in my ascension to the different centers of power, in the main story, in the dungeons I want other plunderers to try and beat me to the big loot. I'd like more quests like the one in Oblivion where you compete against others to be accepted in the thieves guild.

I would love to see other NPC adventurers roaming the land and dungeons, so yes as far as that goes. Not bothered about the duel side as this is already implemented according to the preview articles.

The thought that you would be the only person adventurous or greedy enough to explore dungeons and the wilderness, is just unrealistic. I loved that feature from either the OOO or MMM mod that had NPC`s descending into dungeons at times. I can remember meeting an Orc in some ruin and thinking "Whoa, this is really good, why didn`t Beth do more of this?".

Yep I`m for NPC`s exploring and dungeon delving in the land. Imagine descending into a Dragon`s Lair and coming across some hapless NPC Adventurer being murdered by the Dragon. Sweet. :mohawk:

Good idea :goodjob:
A little bit of competition here and there couldn't hurt a hero like me :D
If Bethesda are inspired this time in creating a great non-linear story, having strong competitors besides the known enemies could only enrich the experience in the most climactic possible way.

Its a maybe for me. I don't think another Dragonborn would be good, because the story revolves around you, the player, being one of the last. But, perhaps other dragon hunters would be kinda cool to encounter. It would interesting, in my opinion, to see another hero slay a dragon. Perhaps that person could teach you techniques for taking them down. Or maybe they would be hostile toward you, thinking that you've come to claim their hard earned prize. I agree, I think other powerful heroes like yourself would be cool, just not someone who is dragonborn.

That whole thing just made me think of the buddy system in Far Cry 2. It actually would be pretty cool if you could ally yourself with other dragon hunters, but I also like going solo, so it's a toss up.

At first I thought it was a MP thread in disguise, but I actually like your idea. Some competition would be great, and a challenge in form of a duel sounds like fun. They should call you a coward if you decline the duel of course.
If Bethesda include them and make them realistic I will be suprised though :(

Yes, they are suppose to have names (some name generator would do the trick), but I forgot to write that in the OP.
Also, only because they are there, it doesn't mean that they will challenge you right away.
Actual challenging from them should only start when you gain some fame (more fame, more challenges) and you should challenge them until them.
Still, I don't like the idea that NPC who challenges me is tailored based on me.
It kinda svck to be honest since it will become boring to fight same type of challenges over and over.
In my version the idea is that you fight some other hero in search for fame and he could use there magic, combat, stealth or combination of them.
Also, if I'm not wrong, other NPC's in game can assassinate you as well, so I don't see a reason why wanderers slaying you is a big deal.
Still, if it is, make it so that they will attack you only if you attack them first or if you accept the duel.
If you don't then they will leave you alone.
Also, this will give more depth to the game and will make your fame actually be fame since it will look that stories of your legendary battles against dragons are told worldwide.
If they plan to do something along these lines, I hope that they will make more variety among those challengers so they are not just copies of you and sometimes you will get challenged by a warrior even though you are a mage.

I thought you ment another player or something if its an Npc Challenger then that's fine. but a player would be a rather difficult thing to explain

How does one get caught by already murdered guards?

I like the way you think. ;)

Something like this I guess would be cool but it may be better just to leave it up to the modders.

Don't see a reason why since I don't think this would actually require that much work to do in my opinon.

The problem the OP states in the FIRST SENTENCE is easily solved with a long post and discussion: BALANCE THE GAME. Thats it.

No.
This would provide you with constant, but still optional source of proper challenges while giving some depth to the game.

Sooo, basically "since they won't do real multiplayer, can we get fake bot-simulated multiplayer?"

Meh.

Well, something like that. :)

The first thing I'd do is to poison him them all, hide their bodies and loot their corpses. hehehee. As long as they don't turn up using "unique" dragonshouts at everything it could add something, like the optionj to co-op with them or kill them

I don't think they should be able to do that.
I wouldn't mind personally, but I think that very large majority of people would so they shouldn't use it.
Also, I don't know if it's lore friendly for none-dragonborns to use them.

good idea, but screw reading all that.

Good new for you.
I have some more writing to do! :D

Not what I had in mind with this, but is still great idea. :)

Then there is no purpose of this and you will eventually become some demigod and be bored of the world.

Messes with the lore on heroes. So no, I don't want it.

How?
I don't think it messes anything actually.

When I read the topic title, for some reason I don't know why, I immediately thought of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tribunal:Gaenor from Tribunal. You guys remember him, the most powerful NPC in Morrowind? I think he could of destroyed Oblivion's Umbra 10 times over.

Anyhoo, a rival like Gaenor would be cool in Skyrim, but perhaps not quite as powerful.

Dude, his insane luck of 770 made me remember him.
Still, first time I've played Tribunal and meet him, I was kinda lucky and defeated him relatively easy (lol, I've out-lucked a 770 luck man), but every next time he was one tough mother forbidden-lover. >.>

Non-player heroic characters is the NUMBER ONE thing that I truly miss in these games. NPCs that a truly your equals and they take some serious effort to take down. Dungeon bosses are sometimes like this, but more often not.

I also disliked the Adventurer random encounter in Oblivion, because all he did was to just kill all the enemies that YOU wanted to kill. I also think I got the DB on me if I killed him. I like the idea of an Adventurer encounter, but there should also be hostile adventurers as well - especially in certain deep dungeons where it makes sense that more than 1 person in the whole of Skyrim would try to loot to get some "easy" riches.

Kinda stupid how everything just lies there waiting for you. What about Radiant AI in the sense of a low level hero finding a special weapon, he fights you and you kill him and acquires that weapon just a tad bit earlier than otherwise.

I also can't believe that some people want it to be that way.
They wish to be the main hero who can do everything and anything without serious consequences.
Wish that everything is served to them.
I personally think it's kinda lame and boring.
No challenge at all and doesn't look like believable world at all.
