Why are people so against V.A.T.S.?

Well I'll be damned... I have registered here too at some point. Must be Oblivion...

Anyway, about issue of VATS... Good, bad or ugly.

As it is, I think VATS is perfect for me. I understand that some people do not like to use it at all or want to change some parts, only thing I can hope for from developers is that they make it moddable.

Because let's be honest, there is no bloody way I want to play MY game with YOUR rules ladies (I presume we have some?) and gentlemen.

Games are for me entertainment. If it is fun to me, I do it. And I admit that my immature side giggles when I rush into room filled with nasties, drop in VATS and "wake up" to massive mayhem around me.
My immature side also giggles when I do the same with minigun or gatling and let it rip in realtime (those pitiful burts in VATS never do proper justice).

Ok, in latter case I "damage" surroundings more than enemies but if it is fun... Who gives a crap?

Is VATS "I Win"-button? Perhaps, but I have fulltime job, family and so forth. Those take huge chunk of my time, I haven't been the same fast wired reflex monster I used to be. Nor do I have time to rinse and repeat same thing 20 times over until I finally manage to do it. (Both are things I have done in the past and enjoyed immensly... But time flies by.)

Gaming is for me chance to break from my regular life to enjoy something completely different from my daily life. I do not play to achieve or grow my epeen by declaring how HC I am doing something with one hand and blindfolded.
I like challenge, but even more I like ability to regulate the challenge to fit my current mood and needs. Thus, VATS as it is.

I have become, shock and horror, casual gamer. And guess what... I am willing to bet most people who will buy this game will be just like me. So balancing the game to fit us is important. But fortunately Bethesda is smart and modding grants you "serious" players chance to rebalance the game to fit your needs. Use that ability, do not demand me waste my limited amount of spare time to adjust to your (most likely minority) needs.

I didn't know you got a 90% defence when it V.A.T.S. Hmmmph, learnt something new.

So for the people who do not like the slow-mo of V.A.T.S are you unhappy that you don't have to be in V.A.T.S. but will still have the slo-mo when you get your kills? I am not shure if this is toggable or not. I thought I read in a review that you will get the slow-mo when you do a 1st person kill.

i hope not. that would get annoying. hopefully its "toggable"

I like to use V.A.T.S. for the slow motion cinematic feel.
But 70% of the time I like to free aim simply because V.A.T.S. has a fairly low change of hitting at longer ranges.

I liked vats.

mind you I'd rather not use it, as I liked to use the scope more but VATS was fun enough for pop head shots.

VATS feels like the original Fallout games. The strength in this series is the RPG aspect. VATS allows me to fully immerse myself in the world without playing an FPS. If I wanted an FPS rather than an RPG, I'd play any of the millions of other titles available.

Vats, IMO, gets annoying after awhile. Becomes a bore since it effectively takes the action out of a battle. I like the slo-mo effects and the fatalities and they are good in moderation but overall vats just isn't very fun to use as a standard mechanic, in my opinion anyway. I'd rather have a system like red dead redemption or max payne.

Plus I don't think there is much more frustrating than watching an 8 second slo-mo cinematic camera pan of your bullet that misses the damn target. lol

I prefer to play the game like a straight up FPS unless i'm in an area where I can HEAR an enemy but I cannot see them. Then on occasion i'll use V.A.T.S to get a lock on them. Or if I am nearly out of ammo and REALLY need to conserve.
