Crashes Now exceeding 1 per 20 mins of play : Fallout: New Vegas

Yesterday I reported that crashes seemed to happen after about an hour of play and several saves. Most all are lock up screen freezes. Happens at all sorts of times. Fighting, dialog, pipboy actions, VATS or just walking to someplace. No particular reason or trigger. When it hangs of course I am forced to Power cycle the entire PC and reboot. The entire process takes about 15 minutes for check disk and Windows to reload and be ready and idle. So I end up with just about 4 hours of play in a 6 hour setting.

It used to be better. Back when I was still leveling up I could play 2 or 3 hours and get only 1 crash midway into a 6 hour evening run.

Now it is worse. Tonight, I have had THREE crashes in the last hour and have not been able to get 20 minutes of play in TOTAL between them.

I am nearing end game and want to just limp across the finish line but fear this game has gotten so bloated and buggy in the database that it just isn't going to make it and I will be forced to wipe and reinstall the game from scratch. That is assuming the code is not so bad as to leave bad elements all over my system and fail to totally uninstall itself.

Worst code job ever in the history of games or apps.

I know you probably heard these already:

Make sure video card drivers are up-to-date.

Close any programs or processes that are not needed.

I am so sorry you are having difficulty with your game. If you will look around we have over a dozen open threads about having problems with this game, please feel free to join in any one of them to add your complaints. I've just checked and there are a number on page two of this section.
