Game improvements

Please read the WHOLE thing!

Purely meant for what I believe will improve Brink, here are my ideas:

We need far more skills to chose from on the skill tree, right now its just bare minimum.

A couple skill tree suggestions:

I suggest a 20 second cloaking ability for Operative (when he gets hit, it stops. He aslo cant shoot or melee while cloaked.)
Hmm.. what's a good skill for Soldier?
The ability to use the Engineer repair torch to temporarily stun enemies when up close (WOW, this one got crushed, I need to think of a better one)
And poison/tear(thnx BrinkFanatic!) gas grenades for Medic

Medic is a medic and I fully understand that they are not meant for frontlines combat. I just think they need another way to help.

Those are just skill ideas off the top of my head, I would really appreciate other suggestions!

Melee weapons:

Where's the swords from the trailer?

Add swords, clubs, pipes, etc. as backup weapons you can use up close for instant incapacitation. (Great for sneaky light body types!)

The melee weapons are a sugesstion for people who like to get up close and personal, and thus, it balances itself.
You cant get that close without other people having time to see and shoot you.

That idea is probably the most mixed on my post. I still stick with it, as I believe it would add a cool facet to the game (light body types with swords!!)

More specific item color customization

Grenades, molotovs, and launchers now cause instant incapacitation if up close, and knockdown from farther away.

If you get hit UP CLOSE (standing on, or a few inches from) a:
Grenade launcher
Molotov
Grenade
you are instantly incapacitated.

If you are in the blast radius but not close to the actual explosive, you get knocked down.

More objective options.
it's too monotone, and at times It seems to me that there are only two objectives. Guard/Hack/Destroy Main objective, and Guard/Hack nearest command post. Don't get me wrong, I think those are great as is, I just think we need additional objectives (and please remove the shortcut objectives. They don't really improve the game.)

Command Post capturing needs to improve. What is really the point of capturing a command post aside from XP? (the health bonus is inconsiquential!) Make it more worthwhile please!

Some maps need more alcoves and platforms, but not so many it gets crowded (NOT WHAT YOU THINK!!!)
The SMART system is part of the core of Brink, and I simply think on some maps, its not utilized to its full extent. The developers did a great job building maps built for SMART without being gimmicky, I just think some maps need more places to exerscise your parkour. I don't mean more camping spots, I mean more running space.

the ability to switch between character SLOTS not classes, during a match.
This really helps you pick the right guy for the right time, as I myself have one character slot designated for a specific class.
I just dont like being forced to juggle two or classes with one specific body type/weapon loadout.

the ability to pick up other players guns.
I see how this MIGHT seem like it would negate the Soldier's Ammo Refill, but I think you should just get the gun with as much ammo left in it as the enemy who was firing it had left. Seems like it might work.

Please understand I really like Brink, and I just want to help it improve.

This is just PERSONAL PREFERANCE!! No need to flame me to a well done crisp :flamethrower: Im not trying to force this on anyone!

Thnx for the feedback!

more skills

Melee weapons

the ability to switch between character SLOTS not classes, during a match.

These are the only ones I would like, and no instant incapacitation.

I disagree with almost everything you said.

Sticky grenades are for op, not soldier.

Not sure how a small blowtorch would stun anyone, and if you're "up close" you might as well just shoot them.

Medics are better off using supplies to heal teammates.

Melee weapons are unnecessary; the trailer does not mean it will appear in game. Not sure how a club would incap someone faster than a gun. Just because it happens in CoD doesn't mean it should happen in other games.

Grenades are fine. I wouldn't mind something like afterburn or something for the Molotov though.

You have access to all the guns in the game already if you took the 30 minutes to do the challenges. Picking up enemy guns defeats the point of the soldier, deterring people from diversity in classes because you might as well be a medic and keep yourself buffed 100% of the time if you don't need a teammate to give you ammo.

They deliberately avoided instant incap melee weapons, and instant incap explosives - BACKSTAB = NOT BRINK.

The game is about speed and control - it's very rare for a player to go down twice in a row and not end up getting finished off anyway before being revived, when it does happen, the Medic(s) responsible deserve their XP for keeping the guy from needing to respawn - and sometimes that suicidal rush he took will have been all the distraction his teammates needed to achieve their aims.

Switching characters mid-match would mean you're able to be a fully equipped Operative, then swap for a fully equipped Soldier, then a fully equipped medic, and everyone would have one fully leveled character for each class, rather than taking cross-class abilities so they can change their role on the battlefield more fluidly - REALLY bad idea, that one. Just no.

And picking up guns would reduce the value of Soldier's ammo resupply, and of their Scavenge ability. As would increasing ammo limits.

Sorry, but total disagreement with you on every point you made. You're trying to get a different game instead of Brink.

I'd like more skill trees like the Light/Medium/Gatling Turret. More skills overall into each class, one more rank to fit it all in.

Also like lag fixes, but that's a given.

Start with obvious:

We need far more skills to chose from on the skill tree, right now its just bare minimum.
Nope,it's fine the way it is

I suggest a 20 second cloaking ability for OP
HELL NO! Bad suggestion!This ain't Killzone 3!
Sticky grenades for SR
What is SR?
The ability to use the EN repair torch to temporarily stun enemies when up close
And poison gas grenades for MD
NO and NO

Melee weapons:

Where's the swords from the trailer?

Add swords, clubs, pipes, etc. as backup weapons you can use up close for instant incapacitation. (Great for sneaky light body types!)
I can go along with pipes and the like, but no to the swords.

More specific item color customization
I can agree with that, but ultimately,it's not very important.

Grenades, molotovs, and launchers now cause instant incapacitation if up close, and knockdown from farther away.
Agree with the grenades, not sure about the molotovs.

Now some more specific updates:

More ammo in all guns, and better hit detection.
Get bigger clips, and hit detection is fine. You obviously need to work on your aim.

More objective options than just: find command post and current objective
There are more.Depends on the class,if I'm not mistaken

once you are incapacitated, then healed, you cannot become incapacitated again. you immediately die.
Don't like this idea.

More alcoves and platforms, but not so many it gets crowded
What game are you actually playing? Seems like you just want to hide and camp on people. This game has plenty of what you are asking for,but it wasn't made to be a game where you just sit in one spot for the whole match.

the ability to switch between character SLOTS not classes, during a match.
Actually, not during a match, but definitely between matches, without being forced to leave your group.

the ability to pick up other players guns.
Yeah,I wish this were an option as well.

thats it off the top of my head

Posts like this are just another example of people either,A)not researching the game prior to buying it,or B)not being willing to adapt to a game that isn't the norm.

Nothing else to say really, its all already been said.

I would like to reiterate the idea that being able to pick up guns would make the soldier useless, sure you wouldn't be able to use your particular gun forever, but the soldier would not be the important asset it is now. Now only if we could get soldier's to stop being dumbasses...

Character switching between matches would be a bad idea, as it would lead to people making level specific characters, plus there is the whole restriction of playing with people your rank in the game. I think switching body types would be fun, though, to make it easier for people to get some more variety in that regard.

DoT molotovs would make them pretty overpowered, especially for an ability that was designed to knock people down, not incapacitate.

All of these add-ins would make Brink something else, not CoD specifically, but it sure as hell wouldn't be brink

no to the incap from nades. nades are cheap easy kills.

i would love a samurai sword option :)

no to ammo. i very rarely run out of ammo, but it might be nice to pick up weapons. seems silly you cant. but i guess that would alter the game dynamic too much. might be good to grab ammo from the ground? battlefied soldier isnt redundant and we can pick up loads of stuff.

agree on the colour stuff. sometimes you see the enemy in blue and its weird.

ability to swap character between games MUST GO IN. you get on a nice server then have to leave to swap character

i like the idea of molotovs making you catch fire. that would look cool. just reduce initial damage to counteract this

Switching body types would not help the game and actually your team. In order to be effective for your team you need to know what they need. So either you should be able to select your character after entering a game to avoid having like 6 engis running around or something similar or you should be able to do so ingame. The whole character level-restriction in combination with being not able switching characters to be helpful to your team is one thing while games aren`t that full as required. This could be also a reason for some lags ingame caused due to the people getting in and out mutch more than it is in other games where such things won`t happen because you do not have to leave a game for switching your character.

Splash Damage and Bethesda didn`t thought about people coming online and they just want to jump in a game without taking a 10 minute meeting on how they should build up a team. Just another point why the games don`t fill up frequently. Switching characters and jumping in and out of games to find a team where you will fit is annoying and does people scare of playing online.

The ability to use the EN repair torch to temporarily stun enemies when up close : No.
And poison gas grenades for MD : Tear gas yes, poison no.

I wondered just aswell as you.

Yes to small knives clubs and pipes but no katanas or long swords.

More specific item color customization

Agreed.

Grenades, molotovs, and launchers now cause instant incapacitation if up close, and knockdown from farther away.

NO.

Now some more specific updates:

More ammo in all guns, and better hit detection.

Fine as is and no to more AMMO, hurts the soldier's rep.

More objective options than just: find command post and current objective

Yes.

once you are incapacitated, then healed, you cannot become incapacitated again. you immediately die.

Uh how about NO?

More alcoves and platforms, but not so many it gets crowded

Somewhat yes, I agree that there should be more room for exercise and to battle behind the battle.

the ability to switch between character SLOTS not classes, during a match.

NO. Then if you got every character it kind've makes it completely pointless to buy the game if ur new, and it makes abilities usless.
the ability to pick up other players guns.

No, it makes the Soldier look bad and it dramatically hurts gameplay.

thats it off the top of my head

First, i just want to politely say, please check your grammar, the post was fairly difficult to read at parts, and if your foreign sorry for my ignorance.

While that could help for coordination, ingame character switching would, essentially, break the game. You wouldn't need the 10 character slots, you'd need four. One to max out each class. If you can switch ingame there is no point to building a character that can multitask, since you could change to whatever the situation required. Like I said before, even if it was just between levels, then people would make a character for each level, and take alot from the game as well.

If your playing with a big enough group of people, would it not be enough for people to join a party, say "ok, Im going to play as the ___ class." I seriously doubt this process would take 10 minutes. Getting into the game is a different story though, but that is just because SD never put a lobby system in, and that is for another discussion.

Also, there is nothing wrong with switching to a class you have little to no points in to accomplish an objective. As a medic/operative, I have switched to engineer or soldier plenty of times just to beat an objective. Frankly, the classes are balanced enough that a roughly equivalent amount of people play each class online , except for operative, but that is only because most people don't take the time to learn how to use it. Regardless, I have rarely been in a game where nearly everyone has been the same class.

NO! No instant incapacitate and no melee weapons for sure, Brink is very nice and balanced right now. I love the knockdown system for grenades as opposed to entering a match and just getting blown away in seconds. Very frustrating.

Also, no cloaking... This isn't KZ3 or TF2... Operative Cloak encourages a lot more skill, and it means you use it to get behind enemy lines to utilize other skills like Hack Turret better.

You are 100% right about ore objective variation and more abilities though.

Please read the WHOLE thing!

Start with obvious:

We need far more skills to chose from on the skill tree, right now its just bare minimum.

A couple skill tree suggestions:

I suggest a 20 second cloaking ability for OP Possibly.
? for SR Too lazy to type Soldier, but you can type this wall of text? Shame on you.
The ability to use the EN repair torch to temporarily stun enemies when up close No. That's just dumb.
And poison gas grenades for MD No. Medic supports the team.

Melee weapons:

Where's the swords from the trailer? Gone. So are RPG's, rolls, dual weilding, and half of the trailier, just in case you didn't notice.

Add swords, clubs, pipes, etc. as backup weapons you can use up close for instant incapacitation. (Great for sneaky light body types!) No instant incaps without reason.

More specific item color customization Yes, please. However, this isn't important.

Grenades, molotovs, and launchers now cause instant incapacitation if up close, and knockdown from farther away. No instant incaps, especially grenades. Toss one randomly, everyone's incapped? No.

Now some more specific updates:

More ammo in all guns, and better hit detection. No, that'd nerf Soldiers. Ask your neighborhood Soldier for a refill. Hit detection, yes, since that's a bug.

More objective options than just: find command post and current objective Then attack secondary objectives.

once you are incapacitated, then healed, you cannot become incapacitated again. you immediately die. No.

More alcoves and platforms, but not so many it gets crowded I... Dont understand.

the ability to switch between character SLOTS not classes, during a match. No. Everyone would make a Soldier/Op slot and a Medic/Engi slot, and everyone would have every ability - NO.

the ability to pick up other players guns. No.

thats it off the top of my head

to clarify a couple points to my critics:

The abbreviations are SR soldier, OP operative, MD medic, and EN engineer. Again, if you're too lazy to type these out, you're in no shape to improve the game.

Contarary to popular belief, I HAVE played Brink. Since day one.

The melee weapons are a sugesstion for people who like to get up close and personal, and thus, it balances itself. There are already melee weapons. Pistol knife. Does 100 damage (two hit incap). Already balanced.
You cant get that close without other people having time to see and shoot you. There are already melee weapons. Pistol knife. Does 100 damage (to hit incap). Already balanced.

More alcoves and ledges DOES NOT MEAN WHAT YOU THINK!!
The SMART system is part of the core of Brink, and I simply think on some maps, its not utilized to its full extent. The developers did a great job building maps built for SMART without being gimmicky, I just think some maps need more places to exersice your parkour. I don't mean more camping spots, I mean more running space. Ohhh. Well, watch this: http://youtu.be/h0q14FZmfIo Because you're wrong.

When I say more objectives, I mean more varied ones than just: Then attack the primary objective.
Hack, guard control points/objective
Escort Person/Hostage
Heal teamates

the color customization is just personal preferance.

Incapacitation is just a peeve of mine. I know Im the vast minority here, but I just cant stand getting guys over and over, just to see them get right back up on the 5th try. Maybe it does need tweaked, just not how I described it. So don't stand there like an idiot, shoot them or melee them.

I left out bug fixes, cause every game needs that.

And also, the hit detection seemed ALOT like it was acting up on me. IT COULD JUST BE ME. No one has ever made a thread about hit detection. It is most definately just you.

The more ammo preferance is aslo just me. I think it has to do with the long health of Brink characters. People die in about 10 shots. More ammo means more killing per person, and that means more lone wolfing is possible.

further explanation for explosives:

If you get hit HEAD ON with a:
Grenade launcher Nade launchers are not contact-explode. They bounce two or three times before exploding. Getting hit with one is already a knockdown.
Molotov It is already a knockdown. Grenades are support weapons, not instant-win weapons.
Grenade Grenades are not a "win the battle" button.

you are instantly incapacitated.

If you are in the blast radius but not close to the actual explosive, you get knocked down.

I think it would improve gameplay alot. For kill[censored]s, yeah. For actual BRINK players, no.

Please understand this is just PERSONAL PREFERANCE!! No need to flame me to a well done crisp Im not trying to force this on anyone. Mphm, fair enough, but this would've been better if you said this BEFORE I flamed you to a well done crisp. Sorry about that, then. Entire time I thought you had sincere ways to improve the game.

Thnx for the feedback!

Actually have the players in game DO SOMETHING like the OBJECTIVE!
I mean honestly, I just came out of a match in which I was 3K more xp than everyone else... was the only Medic (Medic mission) doing something, and one of my team mates was playing as a SOLDIER while the other was a medic who didn't even know his job!!! And it seemed like they thought that they were doing their job :banghead:

Btw, they were human player, just incase someone thinks I'm talking about bots.
Just UGH!!! People need to learn teamwork nowadays...

I understand playing as a soldier, but with only TWO medics and one of them svcking terribly???

REALLY frustrating!
