Cm Partners or Companion share?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:56 pm

Its been a while since I used either Companion share by Toasty or CMparnters by cuthroat mods, and I wanted to know...

Say I wanted to make a partner or two for my buddy to play with (and vise versa). Which is "better?"

Now I know there's really no clear 100% difinitive answer for "better" so let me break it down:

Which has more/better features? IE which has more partner features?

Which is more up to date?

Which is easier to make partners for?

CM partners can only be used if the CM esm is the master to the companion mod.

Talkie's mod will work with any NPC that has the rumors dialogue option and your disposition with them is high - though there are a few mods are designed to work with that mod those are the main things required. I have prefered Talkies mod for usability and versatility.

Lately thought I've been preferring the combination of Companion Master and Minionz! to either of those.

I admit I've never even heard of either of those two. Tell me about those.

After doing a bit of searching, I'm kinda leaning twoards CS&R... it just seems to me that CS&R companions are smarter (auto heal auto loot etc) but I don't know a whole lot about Minonz or Companion Master to really have a formulated opinon so yeah.

I wouldn't call either one complete but the advantage of CM is that you get minute control over inventories and management of companions and tracking their location. I have experienced that when I companionize an NPC that is just supposed to accompany me (think fighters guild quests) then it has blocked normal dialogue and therefore quest progress. I even seen it block fast travel with an NPC that was supposed to follow me and would have till I companionized her (snow white of KDQ) - but releasing them is easy.

Minionz I've used less but it offers control of companions without menus (watch the video) - so far more dynamic and allows for more precision in managing them in combat instead of 'hey come talk to me - do this do that - ok lets go fight' With Minionz you can change commands in midcombat. But there is a learning curve and if you choose the freeplay option when installing you could potentially gain control of anyone and that is basically an uber cheat.

You are right CS&R is the most developed and versatile for general companions. You can use Minionz with it too far as I know.

Other 'Generic' companion mod that I'm aware of is 'http://oblivion.forum.jpmod.net/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=153' by Japanese modder called madtaro. It allows you to make any actor your companion, regardless of what actor it is(creature or NPC, vanilla or modded).

After trying all 3 out I'd still have to go with toasties...

Minionz... seems to be highly lauded these days. But the biggest problem I have with it is there's really little customization with it. You can't change a partners attack style for instance. Partners don't heal themselves or each other either. And probably worst of all when commanding partners its pretty much "all or none". There's no way (that I know of) to make one partner do one thing and make another do another thing. Besides, its not toasties doesn't already have its own version of one click commands.

Its good if your a conjurerer summoning minons, or for those Midas summons (ESPECIALLY the tiger. That thing is really annoying since it never wants to follow you) but from what I've seen, not the sort of thing to use for dedicated partners. All in all it's just too new, not enough going for it... yet. Doesn't really do a whole lot that CSR doesn't do better.... other than full command over conjurations that is. :-/

Like the title implies, its for minons. Not dedicated partners.

Companion Master: Havent' really tried it, but it seems a nice companion peice especially for horses and stuff, but I wouldn't use it by itself.
