Best Netbook to run Morrowind?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:15 am

I'm in the market for a netbook, and while I know I couldn't expect it to run many games, it'd be great if it could run Morrowind.

Does anyone have any experience with Morrowind on netbooks? I'm specifically looking at the system76 Starling (http://www.system76.com/product_info.php?cPath=28&products_id=105) or the ASUS with Atom N550 and ION (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220850).

If I went with Linux on the netbook, I imagine it'd run slower due to WINE emulation...any experience here?

Thanks in advance!

I doubt that would be the case. You know what WINE stands for, right? WINE Is Not an Emulator. (Self recursive Acronym)

How WINE works, it hooks API calls for the program. So when it calls for functions it redirects it to what GNU/Linux/XWindows functions that are available that do the same job. If it is slower, you won't notice it. You never know, it could be faster. GNU and open software develops faster and more stable than their commercial counterparts. What was it, for the Linux kernel, I think there were 200,000 programmers that look over the code, and check for bugs and send back the fixes and feedback.

THanks for the Linux tips guys. I'd be running the Steam version, so I don't know if that makes a difference.

Any ideas on netbook specs that could run this?
