Use one handed weapons two handed?

Sooo I think it would be cool if you could swap between one handed and two handed for longswords and maces n stuff, like in demons souls (sorry if this was posted before).

the point is if you have 2 arms working to slash a broadsword, it would do more damage and be more accurate then if you had 1 arm doing it.

but eh. i mean the hilt would have to be long enough to support 2 hands while maintaining the same distance, which most aren't. just about anything small enough to be 1-handed probably would be awkward to use with 2 hands as well.

You mean one handed right? I agree though, not only for practical reasons, but for role-playing as well. Not to mention every race, or even culture isn't necessarily going to fight the same way with the same weapon. Get some Posta de falcone action going.

Yep, swinging a weapon with both hands can increase the damage. That's why two-handed weapons are deliberately designed with handles large enough to hold with two hands- and part of what makes one-handed weapons one-handed is the lack of enough handle for both hands, see.

Want two-handed damage? Use a two-handed weapon. I'm no more in favor of this than I am of all the "dual-wield two-handed weapons" ideas.

Yet there's plenty of stances, techniques and guards that rely on two hands using a 'one handed' long sword. I would also like to see some Halb Schwert action. Not to mention that most long swords are really two handed weapons, oppose to the TES one handed variant.

There are "hand-and-a-half" weapons that can be used with either one hand or two. It would actually increase the number of weapons available: you would have one-handed weapons (with not enough room on the hilt to effectively be used two-handedly), hand-and-a-half weapons, and two-handed weapons (that are designed to be used with two hands and could not be effectively wielded with one hand).

With the dual-wielding system, you could equip a hand-and-a-half longsword in your main hand and a spell in your off hand, and then if you needed a little more power behind the sword you could switch (preferably an action bound to a hotkey) to a two-handed grip. It still wouldn't pack as much punch as a two-handed weapon, but it would do more damage than a one-handed swing.

Might be cool to see something like this in action, but it wouldn't be a priority for me.

Well, historically, one handed swords has been used two handed, after the shield had been destroyed and the swordsmen where totally wasted, griping the blade near the hilt and using the sword as a spear. This tecnique's name is half-sword. It's a less fatiguing way of managing a sword. I suppose this is what leaded to the research of hand and half or bastard swords and recently to games where one handed blades are handled with both hands.

I would be surprised if bethesda adds the option of handling swords as spears though, considering that spears won't be included.

I would like to see that. They already have actions for one-handed and two-handed weapons, so it seems like it would be easy to add an option to switch from one to the other if you wanted to.

It could be cool.

EDIT: Now I am not sure, but I had understand you were suggesting, changing the weapon from one hand to the other.

Using a one handed weapon with 2 hands is a differnt fighting stance. more acurate more power less defence. (no sheild)

Not as powerfull or the reach of a real 2 handed sword but good in a pinch if you need to do more damage with less.

You dont get less weapons just a differnt fighting stances for each type of weapon.

That's why I've always liked the hand-and-a-half or bastard sword. They were designed to be used one handed or two handed. It made for a very versatile weapon. I'd love to have to ability use a weapon like that in a game.
