Lines of Credit and Loan Sharking

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 12:28 am

My question is: will there be lines of credit extended to you by the house, for when your all out of money, and will there be loan sharks to front you money, in anticipation of a return, plus interest?
Also, like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (and real life), if you dodge making payments on your loan, will hit squads come after you?
Furthermore, if you attack these hit squads in populated environment, will the whole city attack you?
Just ideas that might add a lil' depth or character development into gameplay.

Man I hate loan sharks, I use to work as one and man did that ever piss me off, drive half way across town to go to some guys house only to find that what he used the money for was to buy a truck and the truck is stripped of parts so he can buy booze with the scrap money, if anything they would hire the talon company to do that if they are in New Vegas, if not then prepare for there own Mafias

Seriously, then you have to go through the trouble of wasting a bullet for the guy, and you get blood all over your brand new suit. Inconsiderate people nowadays.

You sound excited.

Anyway, I don't really remember hearing any news on this topic.

I remember there being a loan shark in F1, it would be pretty cool to see them back. One problem could be that they make it too easy to get money, I'd hope that if they came to 'collect' that they'd be a hard fight just to make players think twice about constantly taking out massive loans and killing whoever comes to take it back.

I like the idea, but instead of them coming to kill you they use a mesmetron and make you a slave untill your debt is paid off.

I like that idea.....but I hated when Fallout 3 did the "ooohhhp you've been knocked out" thing in Fallout 3 and The Pitt.

Yeah, like me in my PA with my Flamer got knocked out by a bunch of raiders with knuckledusters...I don't think so.

It's lazy writing is what it is.

I think this could be great, with the mafia being included and all. Maybe as a job for the PC even. As long as they actually pose a threat if you don't pay them back. Continued threats, crippled limbs, theft, attacked while at your house or a hotel room, ruining all reputations with factions even.

It'd be neat if you could take up a job to help a loan shark collect debt owed to him. It'd fit perfectly with the open-endedness of quests. You could either bust the guy up until he gives you the money, take his stuff and pawn it to get the cash, cut off his fingers and bring them back to the loan shark, or be a goody-two-shoes and help the bum get the loan shark off his back.

If you have a house and you don't pay off the loan shark you should find your place trashed with items missing.

I could seriously see loan sharks being a large part of the local scene. Working for or against, they'd be logical and sweet to have in game.

I wouldn't mind getting to collect. I'd love for my combat to take this little piggy to market.

I thought in the original fallout you loaned money up to 1000 in intervals, starting at 200. And you could only loan the next amount if you paid back the previous loan.

that would be awesome if you take a loan and didnt pay it off and when the time comes where they beat you up whenever you go to sleep you wake up with both your legs broken lol

or maybe find a dogs head when you wake up next to you named dog meat..

or maybe kidnap your companion and you gotta do a quest to get them back

No no no no. You don't waste a guy who owes you money, then you'll never get the money and be out by the cost of the bullet. And yes, dry cleaners are expensive if you're wearing a proper Italian suit. You make the guy work for you. Say you have a little something that needs to be picked up and maybe delivered, you get him on it, nothing expensive, just a little something, maybe something for your lady, but you gotta remember to escalate your threats. If he owes money, he had some, bought something with it and wasted it, you be sure to break something personal of his, if you catch my drift? If he's a pianist, don't break his fingers or he he'll never get the money to repay you. If he's a dancer, don't break his legs, but threaten him and and break something else. If he's a no good low life scum with no skill or talent. Give him a six-gun, send him to a rival mafioso and tell him to shoot someone high profile, making it sound like a promotion to him of course. Make sure to inform him to say that a 3rd mafioso sends his regards, he doesn't need to know who he's really working for.

The thing about loansharking is the harder you hit the guy the more coins he gives you, Just like Mario!
