Steam Cache Verification always fails.

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:50 pm

Steam cache integrity verification always fails. I'm using the italian version of the game (installed from a retail DVD). After cache verification, Steam complains there is 1 file to re-download.
It downloads a file 808 bytes long. Obviously, this doesn't solve the verification problem, so if you re-verify your cache, it will be downloaded again and again.
I don't know how to be more specific to help shoot this problem, if you have any advice please post.

I think Steam svck's I got an e-mail verification notice from them that doesn't even work, I can't use support? Lame as hell to me.If I had known my game could only play thru steam I never would have pre ordered, just from the control aspect, didn't knopw how [censored] of a service they really are!

Sorry mcj, this is not a thread about your Steam opinion. If you have any useful advice, please post here.
If you have complaints about the Steam service, go post to the steamworks forums. Thanks.

Please always keep clean threads about problems. Developers must focus on problems, not your opinions.

I am having the same issue. I'm not sure if it was always like that but just discovered the issue after the patch today when I ran into an invinsible "feral ghoul". There is at least 2 other people with invinsible ghoul issue. I'm not sure if they are related or not.

I have the same problem and I had it in another game that magically fixed itself. Might have been fallout 3 but I am really not sure. Mine has been doing it since day one so it can't be related to this new patch.

Same problem here as well. Australian version (or at least bought in Australia) and it always fails. I've seen a few responses on other forums that this isn't a problem though.

These sorts of problems will always be inherent with STEAM and related systems. I returned my game for a full refund until they release a patch/fix (or version) that fixes the steam "activation" (and related required uses) of STEAM. When they do that, I'll buy it again. I'm not about to give my money to them for a game that relies on a system that, by its very design, is unreliable and buggy. Since these shortcomings simply cannot be addressed with such systems, I have no choice but to wait until one is released that fixes the steam requirement.

Until then, you'll have to hold your tongue. After all, you waived your rights whenever you agreed to the steam subscriber agreement instead of upholding your rights as a consumer and returning it.

Within your main Steam directory (typically C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam or C:\Program Files\Steam) you can find a file called GameValidation.log - this should point out which file in particular is having issues.

This fails for me too, very annoying :P.

Good to know there's a place to look and see what went wrong, I seem to be having the same problem. 808 bytes, the installscript file :(

Fallout New Vegas is not the only game to suffer from this issue though. I haven't been able to find a good reason why this file keeps failing verification. The search continues.
