Which mods won't conflict with DLC?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 10:47 pm

There are so many thousands of Oblivion mods out there, it's hard to know which are best. I'd like to ask for your help!

I installed a few; however, there were some conflicts with Knights of the Nine DLC and Frostcraig Spire DLC.

Can I get some suggestions of which mods would be best to use that won't conflict with the DLC and the most recent patch. Is it possible to use Oscuro's Overhaul with the DLC?

I'd like to install mods for the following:
better 1080p textures
better 1080p lighting
better faces
better spell visual effects
more challenging combat

Also, any recommendations for mods with great user created quests that wont' conflict with DLC and the patch?

Pretty much any mod that came out after the DLC.... Well at least any decent mod made by a decent modder that does a tiny bit of research before editing locations. I know Servant of the Dawn has a little overlap with Knights of the Nine, but that's because it was there first.

OOO is one of the most popular mods for Oblivion if not the most popular mod, so of course it works with DLC. It doesn't effect SI though so things will still be mostly vanilla there with just OOO

My must haves/recommendations: (excluding Servant of the Dawn I guess, if the overlap bothers you)

Also: isn't it possible to delete your own topics provided no one has posted in them? Or am I thinking of a different forum? Defintely a different forum...

Edit: You did a pretty good job of describing what kind of mods you want, but if you want to get more specific here's my general reply to these:

If you want any further help I suggest you tell us about yourself; what you like and what you're looking for... Here's some questions to get you started:

Have you played Oblivion already?
What sort of things interest you?
What type of Character do you usually play? (good/evil, theif/mage, roleplayer/random-no-story-hack-and-slasher?)
Are there specific types of mods you think would interest you? (Quests, graphic mods, gameplay mods, overhauls, etc.)
When did you leave?
What things bothered you in unmodded Oblivion?

I don't think many mods have conflicts with the official DLCs (at least, conflicts that show up in OBMM or TES4Edit mean that the mod overwrites some of the DLC content, but that is not necessary a bad thing or a game-breaking flaw.

That said, I know the following mods have conflicts with some DLCs:
Frostcrag Reborn (conflicts with DLC Frostcrag)
Losing My Religion (patch planned for KOTN)

What do you mean by conflicts exactly? That term can mean alot of things, not all of them bad for your game.

I mean anything that would cause the game to crash, or not being able to complete the quests of the DLC.

For example, the Frostcraig Spire DLC conflicts with some of the mods involving spells that I installed previously, to the extent that if you launch them together some of the spell descriptions seem to become corrupted and not all of the content from both are available, including some of the Frostcraig Spire quests.

Also, for some reason, when using the Oblivion Mod Manager, I noticed that Frostcraig Spire also shows up as a conflict with Knights of the Nine! I was thinking how is this possible because both are official DLCs. But apparently they both have some content with a particular NPC, nothing significant.

This is why I asked. Quite often seeing a conflict like that means nothing at all, it just means that one mod is going to overwrite the other. That doesn't mean though that it's going to cause a problem with your game, only that they happen to change the same thing. You should not go by what OBMM tells you when it comes to conflicts, the way it reports them is not very good. As far as it's concerned, almost everything is a conflict since most mods will overwrite something from the OBLIVION.esm file As long as a conflict doesn't mess up your game you don't have to pay attention to what it is telling you, nor should you even bother looking at it. It's really not very useful.
