Zoom out when you sit down

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 12:45 am

In OB I found it very annoying that everytime I mounted/dismounted or sat down the camera would go to a ridiculous distance. I hope they fix this in Skyrim. Did this annoy you too?

Definitely. I always play in first person, and I hate it whenever the camera changes to third person. When sitting down, standing up, getting knocked over, all that. It breaks immersion, you know what I mean?

I agree with everything except for getting knocked down. It might get kinda disorientating watching everything spin in first-person, since it switches to 3rd, you can just get up, get your bearings quickly, and keep fighting.

New engine. It is silly to even worry about this.

Hell yes. I play in first person, let's stay there please? I know how to switch to third if I want to, and I don't.

I can't see a reason to force 3th person, ever. Giving the option to force it under certain circumpstances? sure. I wouldn't use it though.

I agree. I only want to see myself when I feel like showing off my armor when doing trivial stuff, but not often. Mounting and dismounting I do often, and I assume sitting will have more usefulness to it in Skyrim, so ditto for that.

What annoyed me more was when you were sitting in 1st person you towered above everyone else, like the camera couldn't move down.

New engine. It is silly to even worry about this.

Is that even related?

New engine? Yes, it is confirmed. No info about the camera yet though, other than what you can gather from the gameplay trailer.

No, no, I know there's a new engine. I just don't see how it has anything to do with (not) forcing 3rd person when you sit down.

I agree. That have too do with how they program it, not the engine itself.

That had nothing to do with the game engine...

Cameras are not defined by the game engine, they are a scripted or library-packaged feature.

That would be awesome though. Imagine fighting a spider daedra and you get paralyzed. You freeze up and slowly fall over, then the daedra and her offspring (were they summons or offspring?) would slowly start to kill you. All in first person. That sounds fun and terrifying.

Oh. I guess most of you guys don't realize since the vast majority of players seem to play exclusively in first-person, but when sitting down in the third-person, the camera would default to a more zoomed-out range than what normal third-person was like. I thought we were talking about that since the OP said nothing about a change in perspective and even said it was a third-person annoyance in the subtitle.

Either way they are both ****ing annoying and unneeded.

No. I played the game third person whenever possible; Switching to first person only when in tight spaces, (and feeling that the game was flawed when I had to switch).
