[Recruiting] Dune Resurrected

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:37 pm

I would like to raise some awareness of the mod Sands of Destiny, it is the official follow up and ressurection to the Dune mod that never got from alpha.

Sands of destiny currently has a whole island with three large cities spanning three cultures, it also has a floating citadel that make a starting zone with an intro quest.
There is rich lore developed for the mod, with clothing, creatures and races to go with it.

http://s11.invisionfree.com/sandsofdestiny, there is really a significant amount of work already done in this mod, all that is needed is small things like quests, spawn placement and population.

We are increadibley lucky in the SoD team to have such a capable modder that can whip up any thing you need to complete your quest in a couple of hours.

Currently i am one of the only quest builders in the mod, and there is only so much i can do, i alone cannot hope to populate the island the size of tamriel with quests, neither can Darkness Eternal the mods leader.

This is a request going out to any capable modders interested in a new and interesting world to populate, please go over to the forum, register and look at all the content we have made and take some time to post a quest idea.
Make a version of the quest in vanilla oblivion and send an .esp to Darkness eternal and in exchange he may allow you to download the files and convert the quest over to Sand of Destiny.

This is truely a great opportunity for quest builders and other modders as their quests can be fully fleshed out by top quality models and there is enough flexibility to come up with lore to a certain extent.

Get in on it whilst you can!

Kind regards,
Balthazzar

I'd just like to add a few words. I've personally been working on this project for over 3 years now as project leader and modeler/texturer since I officially took over the abandoned Dune project. Sindhara is in it's own world space with completely new architecture, furniture, clutter items, weapons, clothing and armor. 99% of every asset is custom modeled by myself and not seen in any other mod, except the very early beta of the "desert architecture". Only very few resources were used that were available as modder's resources.

I've never officially advertised this project here on the boards because I felt that the time wasn't yet right and didn't want to start yet another worldspace WIP thread. Proudly, we can say however that we have a playable alpha build that is filling with more content and features by the day. This means that the hard work is done. The rest is now the easier stuff like fine tuning and adding features, more quests and fun stuff. There have been many times when I was about to throw the towel, but determination kept me going even through the hardest times. So far there has been nothing that has been a dealbreaker for me.

Although we don't yet feel ready for a full community release, we are looking for modders that are interested in doing what they can to add more content. We're not looking for an army of modders, but maybe a select few that specialize in certain areas.

So, I hereby invite anyone interested to come take a look at what we have so far, share your ideas and let us know if you want to help out and what you can do. Although we are only a few people actively working on Sands of Destiny, we have accomplished everything a full blown expansion needs so far. Any contributions will definetely speed up the process.

It's been a long road until here, but the progress so far have rewarded us with a great sense of accomplishment.

Just to echo what Darkness Eternal has said, we are not ready for a community release but if anyone takes a look at the forum and is interested in helping it is greatly appreciated.
It can be as simple as posting ideas on the forum, even making quests for the mod do not have to be difficult, they can be as simples as "fetch x amount of this item for me", or perhaps even just spreading the items through the world.

I for one do not like to spend the time to spread items and mosters spawns through the lands, hence when i make a quest i just dump all the required items in the same room as the quest giver for test purposes. It would always be a help to spread these items through the world.

Similarly if anyone is capable of the unique landscapes type aesthetical modding then that could be used, someone could be in charge of a set amount of cells to bring to life with flora, fauna, bandits, etc.

Hope some take us up on the offer.

Kind regards,
Bal

I went through screenshots at your forum and it looks amazing! I especially like the arena, Dusaar (I think) the little town with walls and cylindrical gate towers, but everything looks very good and the amount of new items is amazing.
The landscapes also look very good. Those palms and palmettos look like they have been optimised? They aren't high poly?

I think you are ready for alpha release, at least from what I saw. :)

Yeah there is a lot of content, there is much more that is in the game but not on the forums as well.

We are past an alpha release, it is at a pre-beta type of stage, we do not want testing, we are looking for world and quest building.

Darkness eternal has spent a massive amount of time working on the mod so does not want to just release it and potentially have resourses taken and spread around the community.
Hence we are keeping the files quite tight, but if you are capable of making quests (or want to learn, literally took me two or three days to be able to make quests of any size, use the cswiki) and you would like to see them materialise into a large and rich world, then this is the project for you.

Questing is really quite easy, as is scripting, the difficult bits are the modeling and texturing, so having someone so adept at both of these as Darkness eternal really make it great to see your small contributions integrated and embelished.

Kind regards,
Bal
