Console Mod DLC possibility?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 8:17 pm

EDIT: Just to clear a couple of things up.

The idea of mods as DLC is not to directly use 3rd party creations in game on console platform. I was intending to get accross the possibility of Beth taking the ideas created from the best mods and creations out there and adapting them as official DLC available for optional download.

Just to clear things up with the legal technicalities of modding console platforms and XLive - PS.

So you're asking for gamesas to interact with the community better - maybe you should change the thread title to that rather than what it is now, which is just ASKING for console vs pc trolling.

Had you asked me 8-10 years ago when console internet capabilities were just getting off the ground, I would have expected this stuff to be pretty standard fare today. Unfortunately, Microsoft and Sony have been holding the true potential of consoles back with their closed services. PSN has been shown to be a bit more open though, with Sony allowing mod support for UT3 and more recently let Valve run Steamworks through their service. This trend is certainly not something that will happen by itself though, it's something developers and consumers really have to push for. I would have expected Bethesda to at least try and talk to them about it.

I used to play everything on the PS3, then when Fallout 3 came out, I went over and bought myself a decent PC to get the mods on and well...Now I can see what people mean by its ONLY the PC's that could actually run the mods.

I mean first of all, everything plays better on the PC's anyway, no offence to Fan Boys out there, I've still got a PS3 and I play the 360 round my cousins house and they're both good consoles, its just the graphics and "smoothness" when it runs (I can't think how to describe it) is a lot better on PC.

Plus, if you did mod on consoles, how the hell would you actually allocate them? I mean, with the PC version, there's a data folder where you can put all the mods, on PS3 (I'm not sure about 360) you just save it to the hard-drive and there's no additional folder.

You can pick up a decent PC from PC Specialist for like £400 (sorry if you're not English but I'm sure you'll be able to find a site if you're not) and that runs basically everything. I mean, I'm getting a new graphics card, but I've had this one for 2 years and in that time around 4 different PS3's have been bought out, so in the end it works out cheaper.

Way to read the post and not just the title. Anyways, it would be pretty cool if Bethesda took some of the popular mods people have made and developed a dlc from them. I don't think they should be free, because they have to bring it up to their standard as well as keep it in compliance with ESRB, but it would be cool if they did

Yeah, it would be cool, but I don't see this happening anytime soon :(

I think if you want mods. Invest in a PC. End of story.

I think they should do somewhat of what Halo 3 did where you can check "Leaderboards" and download maps that people have created on a console. or at least have a Bethesda Favorites section where you can download any of their maps or dungeons for FREE. I hope they have the modding tool on consoles as it seems unfair and very biased towards PC gamers.

P.S. This is not a trollflame towards PC gamers but if I play the same game and bought for the same price, I expect a little bit more equality.

This. Especially the P.S section, even tho i like playing Oblivion better on my huge tv and controller rather than a mouse and keyboard :P
