Need help installing Wrye Bash/FCOM

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:34 pm

Hi, i have spent about an hour trying to correctly install wrye bash and fcom with no luck. I would really appreciate if someone could tell me where I have messed up and what i need to do to complete the install.
I am running Windows 7 64-bit, and these are the very first mod's i'm trying to install (i've installed mods before, but this is a new comp and i wanted to start with these). UaC is turned off and my oblivion is under C:/Program Files/Games.
1. The first thing i did was install Wrye Python 03a
2. After this i ran the Wrye Bash 275 installer (I assume i couldn't have messed up to this point)
3.I downloaded/extracted the Wrye 287 files to the Data and MOPY folders and overwrote the existing files
4.I downloaded/extracted Wrye 290 files to Data/Mopy folders and overwrote existing files.
At this point i had a file named "Wrye Bash" and i can open it up with python, but if i double click the file on desktop it doesn't execute any function(is this normal?).

After this i am completely lost, i have the FCOM 9.9 files completely extracted but cannot figure out what to do. The readme redirects me to a broken link, and i am not even sure if my wrye bash is installed correctly.
Thanks!

You did everything correctly with the WB setup. You may just be starting WB via the wrong file. I'm not at my OB machine now, but I think you need to click on some .PWY file to start the program (wryebash.pwy or wrye.pwy or something).

Anyway I recommend to follow the Wrye Bash thread here as well as the FCOM/UFCOM thread. Both are always either on the first or the second page of the the Mods forum because their traffic is high. For installing the various parts of FCOM the opening post in its thread is the most up to date piece of information. You need to read the thread itself too. You will definitely have to read a lot in order to get FCOM installed right.

If you are new to modding, I also recomment this site: http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/
Actually this is an excellent site even if you are already somewhat experienced. The FCOM installation guide there is very good. You should take time to really dig around Tomlong's site. It really contains good information.

You must familiarize yourself with this stuff, otherwise you will be pretty lost http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1147064-fresh-copy-of-oblivion-fcom-bash-list-review/.

Well chances are that you will not figure it out entirely but this is normal. At least you will gain some understanding of the whole thing.

Eventually you will be better served if you posted your questions directly in the proper threads (Wrye Bash, FCOM, Boss, whatever). One more suggestion: If you have never played any major mod / overhaul before, and as a training ground you should consider to install only Oscuro's (OOO) for a while and play with it say up to level 10 or so. When you liked it and have modded your game already to some degree in the process, only then go for a full FCOM install. OOO is at the very core of FCOM so playing it by itself (plus whatever other graphics, cosmetics, weapons etc etc. mods) is in any case a good learning experience. ;)

Edit: To start Wrye Bash double-click this file:

....\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Mopy\Wrye Bash Launcher.pyw

I suggest to create a "linked symbol" (sorry I have german Windows) on the desktop. :)
