Free Steam Weekend soon? (suggestion, PC only)

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 2:41 pm

PC Only, since I am talking about Steam.....

Just throwing this out there, more as a suggestion to Bethesda/Splash Damage. How about having a free trial weekend for Brink sometime soon? I know game devs/publishers usually dont do free weekends so soon after a games release but due to the large amount of negativity going around about Brink I think this might help you, Bethesda/Splash Damage, make more sales and it will also help the Brink community by bringing in some players who were on the fence about Brink (especially since there is no demo). Maybe the weekend before the Brink DLC hits might be a good time for a free Steam weekend.

I believe this is a great idea, but should only happen once they change the game enough to be what a significant portion of the FPS market will consider "good". Until then they have to stick to the drawing board.

Current FPS market = mostly "realistic" military shooters which Brink is not nor is it pretending to be. The only thing they should need to do before considering a free trial weekend is iron out any significant remaining bugs which Splash Damage has been doing.

I'm not a regular on Steam, but do have the Valve Complete Pack and a couple of other games. What other games have had free-weekends on Steam? This might point to whether SD will/should or not.

I was talking about the audience, you just have to give people what they like, and a lot of them will play. Over complicating things leads to rationalization which basically hides the truth from you. Section 8 is not a realistic military shooter for example, neither is TF2.

What I'm seeing a lot of people do, is assume that BRINK's failure to launch is due to it not conforming, but this is not the case. Not at all, the sooner we can all understand this, the more informed we will all be, and the more intelligent our community will become.

I did mean games from the mainstream, such as those you listed. I had thought they would only have given trials out for those games that haven't hit their projected sales, or something to that effect, which I presume includes Brink, although don't quote me on that as I'm not aware of how well it's selling
