Fallout New Vegas vs Fallout 3

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 3:11 pm

Alright I obviously haven't visited this forum in a very, very long time, but I do want to put my two cents in as far as how New Vegas looks. (granted this thread may be taken for facts this is all speculation and healthy chat about how it looks for the next five days.) So first off all the character models appear to sort of do a "stomping" sort of walk whenever they move and I understand that the trailers may just be early gameplay builds, but I figured it was worthy of noting. Also before I continue criticizing this amazing game I'd like to note that this game will be more like a by the books RPG in the way that quests are carried out. I think when bethesda adopted Fallout and they came up with V.A.T.S that they decided to make a game that truly had entertaining combat, but unfortunately some things suffered such as a bit of a black and white Karma system and a linear gameplay expierience (without the use of factions and what not). Personally I think this time around Obsidian has taken V.A.T.S and said: "yeah this IS really entertaining, lets fix up other areas that need to be fixed such as customization and more free choice. So personally I think that New Vegas will be a great marriage of combat and some of the greatest storytelling and roleplaying around
thoughts?

Oh without a doubt New Vegas will be the better game, but I just wanted to subtly say that Fallout 3 wasn't really an RPG sure the elements were there, but compared to NV that game is Borderlands

FO3 is still pretty 'reactive' for new players, certainly before the cap was raised with BS. So in that respect it is an RPG. Just not for hardcoe RPG players or the returning masses putting in a couple of hundred to a thousand plus hours. Choices were more action driven than role-play, meaning the experiences differed in how certain obstacles were overcome, whether they were stealthed, tanked, or talked over and what have you. But essentially all players could make all the same choices regardless of how they'd built their character.

I think it's safe to say New Vegas will be more reactive. I think we'll be seeing some very different stories on these forums over the coming weeks from players sporting different builds and not just making different choices as with FO3, but being forced to live up to their builds and being forced to make different choices because of their builds.

I have a hard time believing 70 quests with the same length and quality as fallout3s side quests(such as THOSE!)

I bet these 70 quests are like 2/10th of the quality and length.

If they really are all as good as fallout3s, it may be the best game ever made.

As for Disguises, it's only when you have on the uniform or armour of another faction to sneak into that factions turf.

I thought "THOSE!" was annoying. For me, I always ended up getting the rewards then shooting that idiot scientist in the back of the dome, and then enslaving the kid or leaving him there.

Far enough. :foodndrink: I was just clarifying it a bit. It's not like we can paint are face or put on a pair of groucho glasses and people would not know who we are. That would be cool. There could be something like the ghoul mask but that did not work on people. Just have to wait an see.

Quality? When that kid runs up to me and tells me about it, I tell him I'll find his dad, and I wont ever go to Grayditch, I did that quest like once, it was incredibly boring and drawn out, no back story. It was pretty much just "Oh no, ants, scientest made them big and mean, stop scientist" IMO Fallout 3's side quests were rather boring and lacking in substance. The perks you can get at the end of it werent even worth it, I'd rather have gotten a pet ant, or a weapon or some armor or something, +25% fire resistance and a one point increase to perception or strength is kind of lame, I'd rather have some type of equipment.

"Unique speach options for low intellegence characters"

:celebration:

That just sounds awesome to me. I never considered doing this before, but I'm probably going to start off with one point in both intelligence and charisma and max out strength and endurance. All my social interactions will be a combination of awkward stares, grunts, and prison [censored].

A quest I did like was Riley's Rangers, but only when you found it by reviving Riley, Sneaking into that hell hole and making a kick ass exit was awesome, but the after effects were pretty boring, wish they had more quests with the rangers.

yes I decided not to comment on the correction...Nowadays all this forum is, is grammatical *edits* and no intentions of participating in the topic at hand, believe it or not you don't have to comment on every post.

No, the game is not boring. You're boring.
I enjoyed doing that quest. I enjoyed killing the ants (it was pretty hard too), and meeting new characters. And i found it awesome that the quest went on afterwards..
I had to find the kid a place to stay; i sent him to his aunt in Rivet City.

Fallout 3 rocks, everything is great about it.
