The Ultimate Controls

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 10:01 pm

I'm on PS3, these are the controls I use__

X - self buff
[ ] - melee
O - grenade
/_\ - switch weapon
L1 - jump
L2 - duck
R1 - shoot
R2 - ironsight
L3 - sprint
R3 - team interaction (aka the action button)

It just controls so perfectly. Full control over buffing teammates and freerunning and shooting all at once.
Only quick actions are on the face buttons. Grenade & melee can be done quick but I use my index finger to press or hold them anyway so my right thumb never stops aiming. This is why controllers need all shoulder buttons.

I love the controls I chose so much. Post your experimental or preferred control sets here.

Duty Calls.
I've had enough of pretending that COD4 isn't my favourite game ever. I've had enough of not mentioning that I'm a secret fanb0y of quickscoping occasionally on MW2.
COD does not svck. I also like TF2 and BRINK. Yeah, it's possible.

Yeah, I've had so many years playing CoD, I don't know how to play anything else. Damn it.

I've experimented with a few control schemes, but keep returning to the defaults.

I have MAG's controls wired into my system after a year's solid playing and nearly 1000 hours, so:

X - Jump
[ ] - Reload
O - Grenade
/_\ - Crouch
L1 - ADS
L2 - Sprint/SMART
R1 - Shoot
R2 - Switch Weapons
L3 - Buff self
R3 - Melee

Basically, MAG had swap gear (med kit, frags, etc) on L2 and sprint on L3, but SMART's too hard to pull off on L3, especially the old sliding-reload trick. I was used to R2 on some TPS games as sprint, but I wanted that as swap weapons like MAG/BC so I kept it on L2. Thought buff was fine where it was, and in MAG circle was for entering vehicle/plating charges etc so I just threw grenades there.

I set it to this after my first challenge, and by the end of my first session with Brink I had completely nailed the controls.

I use the default. I don't know why but it just feels right not to mess with a game's controls.

It's widely accepted that COD4 was a masterpiece. However, It's also widely accepted that COD started to die AFTER COD4. Shares both the brilliance of COD 1-3, and the immense popularity of COD 5-8.

I like how I can number them. Exaggerates how many there are and how little they change.

X - self buff
[ ] - Action Button
O - grenade
/_\ - switch weapon
L1 - Iron Sights
L2 - duck
R1 - shoot
R2 - SMART (Sprint)
L3 - Jump
R3 - Melee

Action button is a simple buff often needed at a safe spot (Unless you're a medic). I just aim and press [ ] Letting my character move automatically.

L3 Jump!? Yes. As a light, you'll press jump more often if you can outsmart the Smart system. Leaving it at R2 so I can still move properly (since Shotting cancels running).

Always have a finger on slide. Very useful.

I still don't accept that, tbh. :confused: Sits on my shelf collecting dust.

I played MW2 for the great story... nothing else... and Blops is just terribly boring...

I think BRINK is great :P
The controls seem decent for buffs and etc, but I'm already used to the Duty Calls controls since they are the generic FPS controls :P

Best controls are
(Im on Xbox 360 if any PS3 players were wondering why i have Aim/Shoot on L2/R2)
LT=L2 ------------------Iron Sight
RT=R2 -----------------Shoot
LB=L1 ------------------SMART
RB=R1 ------------------Jump
Left anolog=L3 ----------Grenade
Right anolog=R3 ---------Melee
A=X --------------------Self Buff
X=[ ] -------------------Reload
B=O --------------------Slide
Y=/_\ ------------------Change Weapons

With this setup, you can wallhop easily as a Light, because you never have to take your hands off the anolog Sticks. If you play as a Light, you will know this is a great improvement to the original Jump button as A/X.
I have placed the Melee button as Right anolog/R3 because in those surprising moments when an enemy is right infront of you, and you need to quickly react, you don't have time to move your thumb over to the face buttons. Therefore its on the anolog Stick
The reason for the Grenade being the Left anolog Stick/L3 is because with the Triggers, Bumpers, and Right anolog Stick (LT,RT,LB,RB, Right anolog/L2,R2,L1,R1,R3) already used up, all that leaves is the one anolog Stick and the face buttons. If you designate the grenade to a face button, you must remove your thumb from the Right anolog, effectively making you incapable of aiming for a split second. Which is not what you need when trying to throw/cook that perfect nade.
The final buttons remaining are all face buttons, and are simply there, because they need to be placed somewhere and its personal preference.

That is why this setup is the best for me personally, and its a necessity for anyone being a Light for sure.

Platform is xbox360, this is my controller layout.

LB - Self Buff/Self Revive
RB - Grenade/Molotovs
RS (Pushed in) - Melee
LS (Pushed in) - S.M.A.R.T/Sprint
LT - ADS
RT - Fire
A - Jump
X - Use/Buff Team
O - Crouch
Y - Switch Weapon

This layout is built around a Medium body type.

I too love my control layout, only 1 simple change made and the rest is default. I like to have all my movement mechanics under one thumb if the control layout gives me the option to customize, with the S.M.A.R.T activated when i push in the LS and can sprint/vault/slide and aim at the same time allowing smooth movements without any physical handplay and if I'm feeling lucky I'll throw all of it together while jumping from vault just to keep my Parkour skills clean =)

X - grenade
[ ] - team interaction
O - self buff
/_\ - switch weapon
L1 - ironsight
L2 - duck
R1 - shoot
R2 - jump
L3 - sprint
R3 - melee

This is the best layout for people that do all of the parkour manually, unless you REALLY love crouching and ironsighting at the same time.
