Magic needs realism?

-Luis

when a mage cast a spell, nothing happens. The enemy aproaches with a grin on the face. The mage, visibly nervous says "I don't know whats happening, the guy teaching me said I would be able to cast a fire ball if I beliebe in me, can you wait a moment, maybe if I concentrate more..., wait!"

If you can craft weapons in this game shouldn't you be able to make them? Don't know how exactly you go about repairing an arrow. If the shaft is cracked you pretty much have to put the arrowhead on another one (ie craft one). Not like you can duct tape it together.

In previous games you could repair weapons but not arrows and If an axe is broken you will need to change the shaft also.

I would be okay with it if they also let you have other visual effects like burn marks or scars from really strong hits

No problem if it's not permanent.

I like this idea a lot!

I didn't have any issue with the pin-cushion effect. It did annoy me that I'd put 8 arrows into an enemy and only recover 3. Like others have said, arrows could be scarce enough in Oblivion, especially higher end ones. I realize if they are going to be more potent in Skyrim then less arrows will work. But a higher recovery rate, and the idea of repairing them, is essential to allow for longer excursions.

I would also really like to see better magical effects, I felt that was lacking in Oblivion

As for not being able to recover all arrows I always just assumed that some got stuck in bone or were too damaged to be used again - hence, not being able to recover all arrows.

I can see repairing some nicks out of a blade or something. I just think that since they are putting crafting (smithing) as a combat skill certain things should/could go there instead of repairing. So if a weapon has taken some damage, fine, pull out those repair hammers and go to work. But if a weapon is broken (no longer useable) then it should require crafting to fix it or make it new (maybe it's raw materials can be salvaged ie. the steel, silver, glass, etc.. to make a new weapon). Arrows seem a bit more fragile than a dagger or sword blade. If you are able to salvage the arrowhead or the fletching from a corpse, but the shaft is broken you would have to craft a new one. No amount of banging on it with a repair hammer would work.

Well, I assume smithing will substitute armorer, having less skills and all, but who knows.

I am, for some reason, thinking of the Starburst commercial about juicy contradictions. Only, "sweet + sour" is good whereas "video game magic + realism" is not.

Does anyone else think that arrows should drain your HP when they are in you? Think about it, it is stuck in you, which is extremely painful and bloody. And when there are like 8 arrows in someone they will fall pretty fast just like irl. It'll also force you and enemies to pull out arrows (imagine the cool animation) in lawls of the battle or when you take cover. This would also make dealing with multiple enemies easier for marksmen characters. It'll also end the possible problem of having a bajillion arrows in dragons.

That's... kinda impossible.

How do you repair a broken stick, and keep it just as stiff as before?

woodcutting to make arrows then :hubbahubba: plus smithing for arrow heads of course :P

I liked the effect the first time i blocked a bunch of arrows wit my shield..i went into inventory and was like yeaahhh ima beast..then i noticed one in my gut and i was like...ok...i should he dead...but yeah it was..okay to say the least...but the thought of fighting with a mage and having ur silver armor scoughed up from flames sounds awesome

They prolly wont have that..but a good way to recreate that is to tip ur arrows with poisons...thats what i did in oblivion...i was the death from the shadows in that game

If you get shot by an arrow, it stands to reason that it will be sticking out of you. And, since you have to pierce vital organs like the heart or brain to get instant death, it also stands to reason that it will take more than one arrow to kill you. I actually like being able to recover my arrows from the body.

Now, I do agree that the magic effects should have more visual impact.

I see what you mean, and agree that there should be arrows in you, but what he is talking about is unrecoverable arrows sticking out of you all over the place, which make you have to sleep or something before they go away.
