is there any place where its explains the game modes?

brink is clearly a team game to complete objectives. i don't want to be the player that other people hate and makes other people quit the game cuz i don't know what im doing.

is there anyplace online or in the manual that explains what each gametype is and what certain things like command posts do for your team?? without knowing the ultimate goal of each class during each specific objective its very hard to know what im supposed to be doing. i'm open to learning.

There should be a tutorial that you can watch. Failing that, you can play solo campaign or you can go to http://www.youtube.com/user/BrinkVideos?ob=5 or the official http://www.brinkthegame.com/media/videos/ website and watch the "Get SMART" videos.

Watch the tutorial, then play Campaign.

You can play by yourself - any empty spots will be taken up by bots. If they're all empty, it'll be just you against bots, 8v8.

And whatever you do, don't underestimate the bots, and don't overestimate the bots. No, that's not supposed to make sense, but it'll make itself more apparent when you hit level 15 or so.

For the most part you want to just get comfortable with the objectives. The game mode is basically the same every game, but the objectives for your team change.

When you are chosing the mission you are going to play (at least on the Xbox 360 version) there is a listing of all the primary and secondary objectives. Read over that first. If every one says "Defend the _____", then you are going to be on defense. Bring some tea and a lot of bullets. If they are objectives like "Hack the _____" or "Repair the _____" then you will be on offense and will probably need to be a particular class to get that job done.

Operatives hack, engineers repair, soldiers destroy, medics escort. The icon next to the objective will tell you which class you need. If it is a ying yang symbol it can be completed by anyone.

Hope this helps.

And dont forget to play the challenges. In particular "Be More Objective" will give you a firm understanding of what the different types of objectives are (although not all the different types of objectives) and what classes can fulfill them. Not to mention that you can only unlock weapon attachments / weapons by completing them all up to level 2.
