Buying Caravan cards in Barracks bug

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 1:27 pm

I didn't see any thread that _specifically_ addressed this bug.

I had crashes at Mojave Outpost after buying Caravan cards from the Caravan Merchant out on the road. (Solution: don't buy **those**.) But since the most recent patch just a couple days ago, I've noticed that if I buy Caravan cards from Laney inside the Barracks, by the time I step outside, the cards have vanished (IF they ever went into Inventory in the first place). It's not like I'm out any great number of caps, but it's annoying that I'm being deprived of fleshing out my Caravan deck by 10-15 cards.

Has this been happening to anyone else? Is there _another_ patch coming that will fix this?

I'm pretty sure they're not disappearing, but instead just going straight into your caravan deck. Like I said, I'm not positive but this may be what's happening.

I can confirm, this is what is happening. When they fixed primer/ammo/case boxes to automatically open when bought, they also fixed caravan cards to deposit directly into your deck upon purchase.

Well, I can see the logic in that. What I then question is, "HOW do you ascertain which individual cards you possess?" Under the older format, you could look at your own Inventory and conclude, "I _already_ have cards A, B, and C, so I don't need to buy anymore of those. On the other hand, I still need cards X, Y, and Z to complete the deck."

Is there a method for looking at what is in your deck **without** actually getting into a game of Caravan with someone?

There is not. On the other hand, cards that were in your inventory weren't actually in your deck so you couldn't use them during a game.

As far as I'm concerned, the cost of the cards is minimal and my deck keeps growing. The only cards I won't buy are the non-labeled cards as they're from the base deck. (Unless I'm wrong on that and there's an entire deck I still need to collect.)

I had the impression that "Caravan deck" was like a manila folder that you put things into. Which would mean that without having acquired the Regular (non-casino issued) cards, your deck would be short those cards. That is, if you don't buy it, you ain't got it.

The unlabeled ones are just that- unlabeled red-pattern backed cards. They are not in the base deck (the base deck is backed by the tops theme). I'm not sure, but they may be the card set used at the atomic wrangler and the Vicky and Vance.

Yep, there's another deck I need to start buying then. It didn't really click in my head until I typed that last reply up when I started to wonder. Cost of buying any duplicates that will be automatically discarded is annoying, but hardly noticeable in the end. Does anyone know if the game auto-filters out cards *in the deck* from being offered for sale to you? I haven't had time to research that yet. Too busy exploring to care enough. :)

No but they're cheap so like you said it's not a huge deal.

Also, the only cards you need are 7's 9's and 10's anyways. Wish the AI was smarter at playing the game (ie, SOME characters being better players and making use of their special cards to wipe your stacks forcing you to actually think). My selected deck right now is 36 cards (12 of each of the values I mentioned) and I always win in 7-9 turns.
