PC Sound Problem!

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 6:29 pm

It seems like my machine is simply not playing the sound files when it should. At the time of playing the game when I fire the gun there is no sound for the 30 or the 30+ seconds. And in this If I press the ESC to bring the menu and then I am able to hear the gun fire. Non player character’s same deal but nothing when I talk to them, press ESC and when I came back to the game the sound file plays. Otherwise nothing. And if I try to continue playing the game that way,it freezes my entire system! This is also happening with dialogs,... So If you have any idea then how to solve this then please help me.Thanks in advance!

no it's not that

use this ENB series fix:

http://enbdev.com/silenthill5patch11.zip

extract all the files to your fallout new vegas folder defaultlly found at C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas\

then take the enbseries.ini file from the ATi or nVidia folder and put it into the "Data" folder inside fallout new vegas folder.

of course you must choose which GPU brand you have.

Do you have a single core processor? If you do, the only trick that seems to work well for me is to ctrl-alt-del to the task manager and set the process of falloutnv to high priority. Also I'm on xp. Also you may have to alt-tab out of fonv in order to have that process in the processes list.

let me put it this way, this is what I do to get my sounds working right:

1. ctrl-alt-del to get task manager up and running
2. run fonv
3. load save game
4. alt-tab to task manager
5. click process tab
6. find falloutnv.exe
7. right click on it
8.click on set priority
9.click on high or above normal
10. you'll get a popup asking if you really want to do this, click yes
11. alt-tab back to falloutnv
12. I generally get some weird sounds after this, so I reload the save

This works for me on xp, I choose to load a save first because it seems to destabilize the game more doing it from the load screen. Also, this fix isn't perfect, Setting the priority higher (at least on my single core machine) will eventually (or so it seems) lock up the processor after a few hours.

Hope this helps

Try disabling FFDshow codec for FalloutNV.exe and ensure that the patch applies ie when you start the game there is a small line of text on the left upper corner of the screen.

*If running windows XP*

...\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Fallout New Vegas

-Find "FaloutNV.exe"
-Right click
-Properties
-Compatibly tab
-Check box "Run this program in compatibly mode for:"
-Select "Windows 98 / Windows ME"
-click "apply"

Your sound should be working as expected and the game will run allot smoother as a bonus.
