Question on how Oblivion handles the .bik files

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:24 am

I guess no one can answer this one, because it`s problably concerning something that is hardcoded, but I can at least try it:

Does someone by any chance know if the Oblivion engine downscales the resolution of the .bik video files shown ingame? I`ve made a map loop replacer for the main menu featuring a resolution of 1920x1080. The images look very crisp and well-defined when I watch the movie outside of the game by double-clicking the file, but ingame it`s kinda blurry, as if the resolution is downscaled. Does someone knows the reason?

I found that all the original *.bik files by Bethesda that can be found in the data/video folder have a resolution of 1280x720, so I guess that`s the maximum resolution. However, if still someone has an idea how to set up a higher resolution that would be great!
