Improved Criminal System

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 10:22 pm

I would like to actually spend time in jail instead of sleeping on a for x days. I would like to return a stolen object when caught instead of giving it to the guard and it disappears. I would like to see my face on a wanted poster when i reach a certain amount of infamy.

Sentence 1. That would get annoying. 2. All items taken away can be found in a chest called "evidence" in the person when you escape. 3. yes.

Don't know about the rest, but I love the wanted poster thing. I loved that about AC. Maybe we could even rip the poster down to lower our bounty by say, 5-10 gold?

The only way the poster idea would work is if disguises were implemented.

I want the guards to take you to the judge for sentencing, where you apply your speech skills. Also you should never legally be able to pay fines to a guard, because paying fines to a guard is called a bribe.

^I like this idea...

I would hate to have to spend time in jail... jail should just go by quickly and cost you some skills IMO. there should be a chance for escape like in Oblivion though.

The biggest change to crime has to be High risk and high Reward style gameplay. Stealing things should net a multiple of the value, not simply the value of the item. Murder should be jail time, never the option to pay your way out (Unless you have exceptional speech skill), multiple, unwarranted and witnessed murders should be remembered, and at the worst point, a kill on sight issued at least in the county, though the player should have the ability to hide his identity (Cowls, hoods, masks, covered helms, ect).

With all that risk, there should be great reward potential. More NPC's should have valuables on their person (Like in Morrowind, except the average citizen should have a bit more pocket money), certain, high paying jobs such as thieves or assassin (Dark Brotherhood or Morag Tong, depending on the circumstances) jobs become available. Just overall, incentivize criminal activity properly.

I like the idea of sentencing, it reminds me of that part in Knights of the Old Republic, on the Selkath world, where you have the incompetent fishguy lawyer. That was one of the funnier moments in the game, but it might be a bit much, though I endorse any opportunity to make more meaningful speech options in the game.

That is not a feature that would sit well with me.

People should remember your face and have certain values of you. Seeing you do heroic actions should make people like you more that saw you and slightly around that area to be like news getting around, Murders will lower values, and faction specific of course, but not so one sided as in most RPGs, but separate values.

Like in one city you are the friendliest, in another the coolest, and yet another the most vile evil plague upon all tamriel.

Bounties should be changed so you can get bounty hunters on your tail after a certain amount of time, and if you have good friends, friends who will pay off your bounty. From what I've heard, may be a realistic bit if your caught on the wrong side of skyrim by the enemy faction.

Jailtime ought to go by quickly. Grinding is something, but nothing is completely different: abhorrent. It's quite the kayavitae concept.

Yes to wanted posters, maybe have bounty hunters read them and come hunting for you.

I think I'll start a whole bounty hunter thread tomorrow.

I like this idea! Speech should be used in the bounty system such as when a guard catches you, you could somehow smooth talk your way out of it.

I would like the option to sit in jail to prevent skill losses as long as there was something interesting to do while there (you can still skip the time by sleeping and lose the skills). As for the wanted poster thing idk how it would work. in AC it works because you only get to be one person who's facial appearance doesn't change. If they could do it with Skyrim though that would be cool.

Nobody has mentioned the annoying omni-potent guards why not they really annoyed me it made stealth kills enhanced with magic almost useless.

Actually I got the idea from Daggerfall, which had that system in 1996.
