Repairing Armor

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 12:54 am

Okay, so I know we can repair items to 100% at any time with the proper items/kits, but how does armor degredation work in Fallout:New Vegas. Does anyone know for sure?

Same as Fallout 3? Get shot, hit, smashed, and it goes down.

Whether they have a threshold similar to the weapons is actually a good question.

Clothes arent that complicated, i hope its easier to repair... like Jury Rigging except for clothes but is just part of the game and not a perk.

What's the threshold like with weapons? I've confused by this post.

And I assume it's the same as Fallout 3, Colonel. I hope armour doesn't degrade so quickly, though -- one of the main reasons I'm tempted by Raul... even if he is a disgusting zombie.

Logically, Armor should degrade much faster than weapons. After all, it's armor's job to take the damage of a weapon instead of you, and once it's taken that damage, it's pretty much wrecked.

Oh, and the threshold is a little tick mark on the weapon's condition bar. Basically, everything after the tick is maintenance.

Until it degrades beyond that tick, it won't lose any stats. Likewise, repairing it beyond the tick won't improve its stats.

Well thats what I mean. Like weapons, does repair factor into an armors degrading?

True, true, but it's a game. Even if I'm all for the hardcoe elements, I do find fishing around for spare armour tedious.

In that case, I wish weapons would last a little longer, then. :P

I don't know how they degrade, but both armor and weapons have a buffer zone - once you reach a certain %, it will be at max DT /DMG for a weapon, but you can keep repairing. That way you wont start doing less damage after a couple shots or start getting more hurt after getting hit a couple times.

I've been thinking about this a bit myself. In Oblivion once your Armorer Skill was high enough, you could repair gear past the max, similar to this (maintenance buffer). However, that is a known source of container corruption. I wonder if it works by the same mechanic, and if so, have they fixed the container issues.

Jury Rigging isn't just for weapons, also for armor.
