PC Menu System / UI interface in Skyrim

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 12:12 am

After reading all the information I could find on this subject, I decided to resurrect this old issue because the menu system in an RPG on a PC is too important for me to simply put aside.

I don't want my menu system on the PC has font size 30 again, and I want hotkeys in Skyrim (M for map; J for journal; F or other key for something like the screen "Favorites weapons/spells" ; and so on...)

I have a question to you all:
The system menu is created for TES V is ?(...)Really user freindly but it's not intended to be mouse-used? ?!?!?! :o ?!?!? ----- This is TRUE ??? :( What are the implications in gameplay if this is true ???

Fortunately for all of us who appreciate a great RPG on a PC, we have the most excellent community of modders worldwide that will do what the BGS does not know or will not want to do or not have time to do.

Also, I invite you to vote in this "old" http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1148914-separate-pcconsole-ui-user-interface/ , please. Thanks. :tops:

I'm thinking the Menu will be more simplified for the PC group. It will be similar to what the console probably has but it'll probably be different. Heck I prefer the UI for the PC version of Oblivion instead of the Console Version as the PC one was much easier to navigate instead of having to keep pressing the Left or Right Trigger buttons.

The PC version sorely needed keyboard shortcuts. Take all, confirming number of items, etc all really need to have keyboard shortcuts because moving the mouse over and over and over and over again svcks. I use mods in Oblivion for those shortcuts but it is just stupid to not include them in a PC game.

I would be perfectly fine with the UI/Menu System used in Morrowind. Everything you need on one page (outside of the journal).

It's true of the console version. We don't know what the PC UI is going to be like. Whether or not they'll make a proper separate PC UI, or that it'll be good, however, remains to be seen.

About all we do know of the PC version is that it will be different and that it will have hotkeys (not to be confused with shortucts).

And that announcement came after 10 pages of very angry PC gamers ranting and raving about having to deal with another crappy console UI. Damage control, anyone?

So just what that means we're actually going to get is up in the air. Whether it was planned from the start or added in after seeing so many angry posters, hopefully they'll make something more appropriate.

I'd only like a system like Morrowind if it included a more intuitive system for opening and closing windows. Morrowind's UI felt kind of like a mess to me when I first played it and I need to re-learn it each time I play it. I'm also not a fan of the whole "here's a bunch of icons" inventory system.

I'm a bit wary of what they've shown of Skyrim's system (zoomed in pretty pretty horizontal list rather than a vertical list that could fit on the whole screen) but we'll see what options they have. It will be disappointing if it's a flashy (literally considering it uses Flash) monstrosity that is slow to navigate.

Hopefully something like this, yes, but I would not bet on it...

I'm almost sure that the first mod that I will install is a good one to modify the UI "friendly to console gamers, not so friendly to PC gamers" from BGS, especially the size of fonts, like I have to do in OB... But should not be so, I also paid my game like the others players, and if I want to play Skyrim only in a 22' monitor with 1680x1050 (mine is HP w2207h), I want to see more than only 8 or 9 items at a time in menus...

I'd be satisfied with a shortcut for map, inventory and take all. That's all thats needed. Surely this cant be too difficult? :(

There is no doubt the Oblivion and FO3's PC-GUI were TERRIBLE compared to other wrpgs, arpgs, and heck even western mmorpgs.

I'm hoping for better scaling, bindable keys on everything, less useless UI animations for quick pop up, mouse scrolling for weapon/spell selection, etc.....

Although all of that will probably be modded if it's not in :)

Hopefully not, I'm sure Beth can be more creative than that. There is something as too much information in too little space.
