Skyrim to svck on PC like DA2?

Why are PC games being held back by aged console tech?..... Money. Beth, your a company and need to make money, but PLEASE respond to your fans faith by NOT restricting Skyrims glory on PC. Many in this community time their PC build for the release of Elder Scroll games. I am running an Intel i7 2600K, 2x GTX 580s, and a bunch of ram, and I sure as heck hope it will be put to good use. I've lost faith in Bioware (I wont even start on the PC version of DA2), so Beth please don't go down the same road. Aside from pushing PC graphics capabilities, I recommend retaining the technical nature of the RPG (give us loads of descriptions, on everything, damage details etc), and not dumbing down the PC version. Am I alone in these fears?

1. You refer to Bethesda fans as though they are PC-only players. You're wrong.

2. Dumbing down? The RPG genre is tied to the PC, only, and consoles are the reason for a lack of intelligence/RPG elements in games?

Has no one else noticed a clear and offensive bias in that post? I agree that Bethesda should push EVERY platform to their limits and fully optimize their game for each one, but the OP is basically screaming bloody murder and blaming a lack of RPG elements and intelligence ("dumbing-down"?) on consoles. By all means, request optimization for your preferred platform, but why must such requests typically be accompanied by condescending insults?

Judging by the large amount of people complaining about the graphics, it doesn't seem far off.

Your PC's specs do not entitle you to any special Treatment. Dragon Age II was poor(er) design choices, and a rushed timeline, not a result of console-ification, Since Origins existed on the 360 as well.

They'll make the game they want, if that's not good enough for you, enjoy your sour graqes.

The aspect that the console holds back that is most apparent to me is the level design. Most console games have smaller levels and sometimes very linear linear levels. I attribute this to the small RAM the consoles have. Even if they have less overhead on running applications, 256MB - 512MB still isn't that big in today's standard especially when it has to hold HD texture, NPC data, object data...etc. As a consequence of the memory limitation, games seem to tend to either have a lot of loading screens or relatively sterile environments.

Considering those that have upgraded to a 64-bit system and RAM isn't really that expensive anymore, there's a lot of memory that goes unused as a lot of games aren't even LAA (Large Address Aware) and even more aren't native 64-bit. After a 64-bit windows load up eating around over 2GB of RAM, you still have 5-6GB left of everything else. Fine, PC games get HD textures since it has the memory to hold and stream it to the vid cards, but it just svcks that the levels are still small or sterile all the same.

Yeah this was very evident in Crysis 2 when compared to the first Crysis from what I hear. The first Crysis remains unable to be ported to consoles really because of that bigger more detailed an open ended environment it had. Where as Crysis 2 was set in a city with lots of doors you go through to load new areas to break it up so the consoles could handle it. Console games these days just feel behind the times like your gaming in small boxes instead of large immersive worlds. Unfortunately since Skyrim is indeed multiplatform I would not expect it to be much of a leap over Oblivion in terms of world design. I can only imagine what it would be like if they made it only for PC. But that isn't going to happen in todays market. Then again Battlefield 3 surprised everyone recently by making a game optimized for modern PC's an scaled down for consoles. So who knows maybe Bethesda will do something similar at some point.

DAII was bad on all systems. A 1 year rush-job forced by EA, such a sad sight.

Of course, the population of an internet game forum wouldn't be biased towards 1) PC users, and 2) the most fervent fans. :)

The people here in no way represent the "average player" of the Elder Scrolls games.

Oi vey, another thread bashing consoles.

I am so surprised.

I love my Xbox thank you very much Mr. Personal Computer guy. I'm glad I'm holding you back with my "aged console tech" otherwise you'd be wasting far too much money upgrading your PC every two months so you can add an additional sparkle to your screen.

You're welcome.

I'm gonna stop this before it becomes a full fledged platform war.

Because if that happens, I ban everyone who doesn't think the N64 is the best platform ever. Sorry, it is a reflex.
