Veronica Side Quest: Cannot Initiate Quest

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 1:39 am

I finished the game but not with all of the character side quests completed as evidenced with the ending. Before the the battle at Hoover Dam where the game prompts you about finishing everything up because there is no turning back, I wanted to finish up some side quests for the characters. I tried with Veronica and Raul but their quests did not initiate. I even took them to the locations mentioned on the Fallout Wikia and at no point Veronica initiates a conversation. The wiki also stated that you have to wait and I made sure to sleep for a couple of days with the main character and still nothing happens. Can anyone resolve this?

Unfortunately yours seems to be a common problem. I had the same problem with Veronica, haven't tried Raul's quest yet. I've had to start over twice now due to NPC interaction glitches. Unless you can find a command console prompt to force the quest dialogue from Veronica/ Raul, you're pretty much screwed. Sadly I haven't heard much in the way of any of the patches fixing the many NPC issues. The latest patch hasn't addressed any of my issues, and now enemies seem to be trapped in the floor more than ever...

Eh I just really wish they would have taken time wire out bugs like this. This game is very addictive but these bugs really make this an annoyance. I guess marketing decided that this game was supposed to be out early to increase sales or maybe the QA people were not doing their jobs.

The latest patch does not seem to fix this.

The way the game initiates side-quests for most of the characters is by establishing your history with them- either through an invisible "history points" variable or through conversations triggered when you first visit some places or talk to certain people.

That's the rub, it only seems (for me at least) that these things trigger on first visit. I suppose the idea was that you'd have to spend actual time with the characters while exploring and meeting people to justify them opening up to you. Sadly the effect seems to feel like you're playing a character-side-quest slot machine if you do not plan out who is with you when in advance of you going places for the first time.

I'm not sure it's technically a bug though it does seem like a mistake even if it is working as intended. I agree that this should be adressed in a patch.

Also- several people are currently working on mods that make it so these triggers open up a conversation option that will initiate the dialog that would be otherwise automatic if you had them with you when it happened. The idea of this is that even if Veronica were not with you when you first talked to the OSI guy, you should still be able to bring it up in conversation later. Really though- this is how it should work already (at least for Veronica). It does not even require adding more spoken dialog as the only thing needed to be added is a text dialog option followed by the existing conversation.

The Raul quest, I had to trigger through the console. One of the triggers, if you fully interact with that trigger before you meet Raul, you will not be able to interact with it again. The biggest problem is that the main story will most certainly guide you to reach that trigger first, before you meet Raul.
Spoiler
If I talk to Ranger Andy and exhaust the dialog, when I go back to Novac with Raul and I try to talk to Ranger Andy,
my view kicks back to a camera only view (can't see my hands/weapon, can't go into 3rd person), and my character loses collision, just floats like a ghost and can go through walls.

There are some other broken quests, but the one that really bothered me was during the NCR quest, which is flat out missing dialog triggers for mission objectives. .
Spoiler
When the NCR sends me out to deal with the BoS, it gives 2 options: kill them all, or ally with them. If I want to ally with them, and during the BoS quests I help Paladin Hardin become Elder, I cannot ask him to join me in the Hoover Dam battle.
. And I looked all over the dialog tree. The dialog is just not there.

Exactly, it shouldn't really penalize the player that way.

Went into SR..she didn't follow..went back outside to get her...dialogue...went back inside..still no show..went back outside .....dialogue...went back in and she was there this time ..said something about the weapons in the place and then activated her quest.

For he she did initiate the quest as we was about to blow up Vault 19, but once completed the quest she refuse to do anything. She suddenly initiate convo with "whats up" though. But refuse to move, fight or anything. She can fast travel with me, but that just about it.
Had to park her back at the casino. Prior to her initiate the quest, I had given up on get her quest going at all. As I had tried to bring her to every location in game where it should trigger.

How did you handle BoS? If Hardin is new elder then Veronica will not trigger her quest anymore. Also if you have destroyed the BoS bunker then the quest won't trigger either. Best point to trigger the quest if you have done a few quests for BoS. Also you need to talk with Veronica about the Elder and the codex.

However, the quest trigger is a bit buggy atm. As it has been suggested already visit the trigger areas repeatedly and wait for her to make a comment. After the comment she either will talk to you "You got a sceond?" or you need to talk to her using the companion wheel.

Ime best placed to trigger the quest are Silver Rush and Camp McCarran (talk to Dr. Hildern).

i went everywhere mentioned on the wiki and in my prima guide and the only place she ever spoke was in Silver Rush i'm about to give up on her i spoke th Dr Hildern and she stays silent, i went to vault 3 and she does not react , McCarran same thing , Nellis AF base nope ,Nipton, Old Mormon Fort? nothing, Nelson? nope,Casa Madrid apt ? nope, only place i did nt go is Repconn test site because i had already completed that quest when i got Veronica and when i go to those places i'm not porting to there and wait 2 secs i run in circles for a long time untill i get tired of not getting any reaction , so if someone have any idea how to force her to trigger that sidequest it would be nice to know

edit: i did nt do any quest with the BoS yet i wanted to do her sidequest before going to Tops for my mainquest

*Minor Spoilers*

Here is my post about it : http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1135849-veronica-i-could-make-you-care-bugged/page__p__16617773__fromsearch__1&#entry16617773

In the end no one found a fix for me. So i just continued with the main quest and annoyed the annoying "quest failed" that appeared when i destroyed the BoS bunker , bacause yea i wanted to play the damn game. And patch number 3 didn't fix any of this (I first waited for the patch before i did anything). From what i have seen this quest is by the far the most bugged. I dunno what these programmers were on when they were programming this game, but it was still very fun to play it though :)

Let me know what you think of my post about it

i found in another thread that if you go to the places that are listed and she is not reacting you go in the console and do the following select veronica and type: addscriptpackage 0014779f , i did this in vault 3 and she reacted i spoke to her and it triggered the quest , i think that i had done the quests in the gomora and that she had reacted counted towards the 3 places , since it was not listed anywhere i did nt think it would , anyhow that how i got it to trigger in my game , hope it helps
