Wrye Bash Installation Problem

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 9:57 am

Tried everything a newb can to get Wrey Bash (WB) installed properly. Finally discovered the Bug Dump feature and wondered if anyone here can help me translate the information. I'm hoping this will solve my WB install issue. There seems to be a missing .png file... I've figured that much out anyways...but what does it all mean? Much thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can offer, I just gotta get WB running right.

Maybe just missing one of the installations. If you have v290 installed you should have also used the 287 prior to that which 290 needs files from ...
"Requires an old installation of Wrye Bash 286+"

Recently there's been a bit of an extended upgrade path, 275 will set you up, 287 is stable which you use to overwrite 275, but also needed if you want to install 290... each of those installs overwrites the previous one. If you went from 275 straight to 290, all you need to do is overwrite your current install with 287, then again overwrite with 290.

That oblivion16.png file is in oblivion\mopy\images\ folder on my setup.

Edit: Once you have it running check my signature link out :)

Thanks so much for the ultra quick response alt3rn1ty. You've detailed what everyone else has been telling me. I've done everything you've listed but I can't get Wrye Bash (WB) to work. The problem starts with my overwriting of the 275 installer with the 287 update. Up to that point WB 275 opens normally, it's when I update with version 287 that it stops functioning. I think I must be doing something wrong, so I'll detail my installation procedures...

1. Removed all traces of Python & WB & deleted Mopy
2. Some Python & WB files/folders still exist and so uninstall Oblivion and check no Python/ WB left
3. Re-install Oblivion in C: "OblivionFolder"
4. Run Oblivion 1.2.0416 patch
5. Install Python 26.(something) ... it self installs to default directory
6. Install WB 275 Self-Installer (it chooses my "OblivionFolder" and I hit Enter
7. I check launcher short-cut and it opens WB
8. I open .ZIP file 287 Archive version, select all, and extract it to the Oblivion/MOPY folder... it requests permission to overwrite existing files...
9. I choose YES to Overwrite All existing files (there is also an option to Overwrite Older files - done that too)
10. I extract .ZIP files 290 Archive to MOPY folder as above, and overwrite all existing files
11. Check WB short-cut icon for proper reference to WB launcher and double click
12. Nothing happens

I don't know what I've done wrong and I hope you can help. You've been great so far, and I know we can get this thing working, I think I just need to correct procedure. Thanks again alt3rn1ty

If youre on windows7, I had the same problem. I fixed it by installing the python and extras package, then skipping 275 alltogether, installing 28whatever and 290 on top of that. Worked like a charm.

Short version, uninstall 275, manually install 287 then overwrite that with 290.

Sorry, neglected to tell you I'm using Win XP SP3. But I might give your suggestion a try... How would I manually install 287, would you mind giving me a break down please?

Just copy the Data and Mopy folders from the Wrye Bash Archive and drop them in your Oblivion folder, then do the same with the Data and Mopy folders from the 290 archive.

Not really much more to it than that. Run Wrye Bash from (G:\Games\ whatever your drive-install path is) Oblivion\Mopy\Wrye Bash Launcher.pyw after you overwrite 287 with 290, should work as long as you've got python and whatnot installed correctly.

Problem is that there are no Mopy or Data folders in my 287 or 290 Archive updates. I did try moving 275's files from the Mopy folder to my desktop and installing the archive updates to the now empty Mopy folder, but no luck. Does this mean we're stuck?

allright i had problems as well.i got windows 7 so it might be different for you on xp.but this was th eresponse i recieved and i got it it to work straight away.i havent got v290 yet as im comfortable withthis setup so far.

The first thing you need to do is re-install Oblivion outside of the Program Files folder. You'll have nothing but headaches if you leave it there.
Create a folder C:\Games and redirect the install to it so it comes out C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion. The rest of these instructions will assume you've done that.

The lastest Wrye Bash has issues, so this is my suggestion. From the Nexus page download;
- the Wrye Python 03a package,
- the Wrye Bash 275 Self Installer,
- then scroll down the page and find Wrye Bash 287 - Archive Version and download (this is the most stable version).

The python 03a package has version 2.6.5 in it, but also has additional files required.

Uninstall the python 26 you have.
Launch Python 03a, it's an installer that will guide you through installation of all required files. Don't worry, it won't hurt Blender or anything.
Once that's installed, launch Wrye Bash 275 Self Installer and let it install to your (new) Oblivion folder.
Once that's installed unzip Bash 287 into your Oblivion folder and let it overwrite the existing files.

now this was what i was told to do and it worked.i have the GOTY edition so i dont need to apply the patch or anything like that.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22368 this is the nexus site with wrye bash.wrye python 03a has everything you need to make it work.maybe you need to reinstall yur game into a folder outside program files or program filesx86 where mine was originally installed to make it work.as far as prior python....i have blender an animation and modeling program,so ignore that stuff.

I did install Oblivion outside Program Files, but I was also told by others to install 287 Archive files to the Oblivion/Mopy folder. I'll try installing 287 only to the Oblivion folder as you direct to see what happens. I'll try anything at this point. I've even got the GOTY game and I'll install that instead this time as well. Got my fingers and balls crossed.
PS. I've uninstalled and re-installed WB at least a dozen times now... something's gotta give.........

That cant be right, inside the zip file is two folders, Data and Mopy. If they aren't in there, then something is wrong. You just unzip them somewhere and then copy the folders over.

Wrye_Bash_287_-_Archive_Version-22368.7z

thats the 7z compressed archive. Inside is Data and Mopy, everything else is within those two folders. Download them again, in case they are corrupt or something, unzip them into a temporary file, then copy the folders over.

I had to run the Wrye Bash 275 uninstaller (not the python or misc python files uninstaller) to get it to work.

If you are having trouble with the .7z format, you can get the program here, it is free. http://www.7-zip.org/

The two archives you need are on this page http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22368

You need:

Wrye Bash 287 - Archive Version (found under Old Versions).
Wrye Bash 290 - Archive Version - Update Only ( under Updates)

Install 287 first, just copy the Data and Mopy files in it over into your root Oblivion directory, then do the same with the folders in the 290 version, overwriting whats already in there.

when you go to your games folder and open the bethesda folder in it should be your mopy folder.C:\install folder\Bethesda\Oblivion

the best way ive found to do this is to extract the files into an empty floder on my desktop so i can see whats in them, then "copy to" folder into my oblivion folder.
be sure to install wrye python03a first, the 275 installer 2nd(these are both self installers so they will go automatically where they need to),then the 287 archive to overwrite.basically extract the 287 archive into a new folder on your desktop and copy to folder C:\install folder\Bethesda\Oblivion
the 287 rar or zip should have a data folder and a mopy folder in it.they'll copy to the right place if you do the install right.if yoyre still having issues be sure to let me know exactly how youre installing the game and any other mods.i usually put a few things in first, such as BOSS,OBMM,obse,Fast Exit, and the 4 GB patch, with a few others(i still use OBMM for most mod installation),then wrye bash, then FCOM setup so on and so forth.....
but yeah any issues let me know.ill help as i can or point ya towards the right direction.

and dont worry you'll get it.im anoob at this as well and it was a headache putting it in,getting it to work, and then learning how to use it.but it made the game worthwhile(took 3 days to reinstall, add all the mods since i went for the ever daunting FCOM set up,and get wrye to make it work),but damn now this is a game.
