What do you expect in the crime/jail system?

I'm hoping when you sneak into someones house and kill them up in their room ALONE you won't get a bounty....
And more ways to break out of prison.

1) If you're undetected when you do it, you don't get a bounty. At least, not in Morrowind or Oblivion.

2) Like what? I kinda like Oblivion's prison break system, but I'm open to ideas.

3) I hope they add a trial or something to get out of being arrested (but still have an option to wave a trial if it's like a 5 gold bounty and the trial would be a nuisence.) Did they have this in Daggerfall?

yeah it was in daggerfall. this thread discusses how it could be in Skyrim:

Kinda gruesome but I feel like witnesses should have to report any crime in person so it would take an NPC to physically approach a guard before triggering a bounty. That way you can *ahem* remove witnesses. Of course, if someone sees you do that then they'll try to report murrrrder.

I suppose even with multiple NPCs attempting to report to the nearest guard (not always going to be the smae guard) it would also be good as you wouldn't be able to do anything about really, although you could try...

would be really neat if they made a complex system for it, maybe had detective NPC's wandering around, and if you assasinated someone, the guards might decide to search you when you left the city, and if they found the murder weapon, they might try to arrest you. That way you'd be forced to stash the murder weapon, maybe even rearrange the murder scene to make it look like an accident. In plenty of in game books, it's quite clear that killing someone is a very small part of getting away with murder, would be nice to have a bit more to it than barging in with an axe.

I want thievery to be useful for anything other than roleplaying, for starters, like it was in Morrowind.

I hope that they make the process of being caught and arrested more of a threat - not in monetary terms but in terms of regaining your stuff...

It was too easy to just find the evidence chest and take it all back. What about if some of your confiscated items were taken by corrupt guards and/or sold on? Or even moved to a different jail location so you had to work to get your stuff back?

Looks to me like the core of what people are saying is that they want the act of breaking the law to be a valid game choice. The world ought to act according to your illegal actions rather than just pinning a status flag on you automatically the entire process is incorporated into the game, whether that be evading capture or escaping or even manipulating the judicial system.

It is particularly frustring in oblivion that you are equipped with all the tools and opportunity to make your way by breaking the law but when it comes down to it it is such a pass/fail system where the rest of the game is a lot more organic. I very much hope they have addressed this! (I can't see why not when so many mods did and Beth do seem to have looked in that direction for inspiration on other things)

absolutely. I always hated how any NPC seeing you automatically spawned a bounty. NPC's should run for the nearest guard and report you before any bounty goes up. If there aren't any guards in the area and you leave, still having vitnesses alive, a bounty should appear a while after leaving them alone, seeing how they in theory would've told some passing guard.

In OB I often had the issue of whenever I killed someone unnoticed, I wouldn't get a bounty right away. But then, say when I left the house, a bounty would suddenly appear along with a ninja guard to arrest me.
