BSA question about CURP

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 1:48 am

I'm about to install the Origin of the Mages Guild. It requires that one installs the CURP resources package (plus the latest patch update for it). CURP presently is at version 1.4.9, it contains 3 subfolders: Sound, Meshes and Textures, and the "CyrodiilUpgradeResourcePack.esm" file.

I was wondering if one could make a BSA out of the resource subfolders. The filepaths seem to be fine, no spaces in the pathnames and so on. So how do I make the OMG mod (and any others by the same author) recognize the proposed CURP BSA resource file?

Is it enough to just name the BSA exactly like the ESM file? Will Oblivion load it correctly then during game startup? Or do I need to additionally register the BSA (named like the ESM) in the Oblivion.ini file?

Examining the CURP patch update v2.6, it looks quite like the CURP 1.4.9 base pack in terms of contents. I guess it would therefore be OK to make a BSA from the patch update as well?

Much appreciate your guidance!

The easiest thing to do would be to name the BSA to fit the OMG file instead so that Oblivion will load it up that way and you don't have to use the ini to register it.

From what I read lately, you either need to name BSA same as esp file or add it to .ini. Seems that naming it as .esm doesn't activate it.

So does that mean all mods that require CURP would have access to the BSA contents? (Probably a dumb question but at least I won't die wondering ;) )

@Arthmoor
I see, but renaming it to "OMG.bsa", would it then work with other mods like e.g. "The Necromancer.esp" from the same stable? Or would it work "exclusively" with "OMG.esp" only? Though I guess once it's loaded by whatever .esp, it's loaded and available for all depending mods.

Registering is otherwise quite OK with me, I always keep track of my manual edits of the Oblivion.ini so I won't forget that I did something. :)

It would work as long as you have something named "OMG.esp" to load it with, yes. Or any other ESP name you wanted. It doesn't matter what the names are as long as the resources get loaded.
