Tree trunk/log Texture/Mesh help

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:57 am

Ok well this isn't strictly TES/mod related but the priciples are the exact same. Unfortunately I cannot find any image of what I'm talking about but I'll describe it as best I can.

I currently have the model for a treetrunk/log but I want it to look completely natural, as if it fell over monthes ago. This means no clean straight cut, so what I'm asking is how to I make it look like it's broken or snapped? Do I model the end of the trunk with spikes? but that would make texturing it really hard...

I hope you understand what I mean because I'm kind of stumped. If it needs more explaining just let me know... Oh and I'm relatively new to blender so....

If I were you I would search for visual references, and make it look the same.

I would definitely make the mesh jagged on the end if thats what it is like. model it in virtual to mirror how it is in reality. same with texturing. do some research by looking at how other artists accomplished similar effects. maybe you add a little moss mesh or some accompanying broken piece of the mesh to sell it. or something there abouts

Thanks but I can't find any good examples of visual references  I also haven't found any 3d model examples of what I want so I can't compare :shakehead:

Help is greatly appreciated.
