Landmass creating...

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 10:00 am

This is a short and simple question, how can I make more landmass faster? Im using a new worldspace and im needing to build a large island, a pretty big one. As its going, its taking FOREVER to make land, is there a faster way to produce land? Its a bit tiring on my wrist to have to move my mouse down them up then down again about 20 times before i get a piece of land the size of the edit radius.

The heightmap editor isn't a good idea unless you are creating a very large island, at least 40 cells or more across. Anything smaller than that should be done in the landscape editor to avoid unnecessary bloat. When you use the heightmap editor, 4 quads worth of cells are automatically added to your mod. If you don't need them, it's wasteful. To raise land quickly in the landscape editor, just raise a patch of land above water and use the flatten tool to drag surrounding land up to the same level. With maximum brush size, a cell's worth can be raised in a few seconds.

Another primer on the heightmap editor.

The other option is to increase the landscape sensitivity multiplier. This will allow you to make vertical adjustments within a single action quicker and easier. It's located on the same options panel as the grid snaps.
